Growing a Profitable Subreddit - Deep Dive on Reddit Journey

I started briefly to work on a reddit account around a month ago and it's karma is still tiny (only did 2 replies) and now stands at 39 lol.

build up some early karma on freekarma subreddits. people over there are hungry for karma's

Most of the time I spent working on this project today was in account creation. I created 3 addition accounts but then stopped before creating the final and forth account. I got the warning "You have been doing a lot of that, slow down and wait x minutes" or something to that effect so I just stopped. I don't think it really matters a ton if a day lapses between the account creations at this time.

I was able to even get some massive karma on the second account. I don't think I am going to push this too much as I don't really need to get these accounts to massive karma levels at this time. I only need to know how to create the accounts and how to generate Karma on them.

I got this image from the wayback machine. https://web.archive.org/ I dialed the time back to 2017 when /aww first hit big and plucked a ton of images and titles from it and put them into a file. I think I'll build up the file by date and get a few hundred images in it. I can then rotate images for new accounts and get enough karma on them to be able to cross post or upvote later.

I posted this exact same image into /funny and some ass hat called me out on it. I then got sucked into a flame session with said ass hat. You really know you shouldn't do that but they make it so easy and suck you in. Ducher ended up reporting my post before I even commented on his ass hatery and got my post taken down. Its all apart of the game but between me and you guys, I would love to take some of them into a dark ally and introduce them to my louieville slugger.

I can personally now attest that you can start a new account and post some old highly upvoted shit and it will do well. Who would have thought a clever line and a bunny eating could get me 1.4k karma and a flame war in the same day, but ma-fuck'n-a it was a hell of a day on Reddit for this Brah.

I am getting a new puppy tomorrow so I don't know how much of this project I will work on tomorrow. It would actually be a great day to nail down a niche and really deep dive into what does well on Reddit and see if we can hammer out a home run of a niche.

Tell me if this sucks or if anyone is following? I think I have dropped some tid-bits of awesomeness but its been a good year since I have shot the shit with you find upstanding BHW citizens and if this is shit, I'll go about my business lol.

actually i created my subreddit with icon, banner, rules, discription... looks good
made a meme post related to my niche.
crossposted the post on a giant list of subreddits... and i got 0 subsribers. but when i made a couple comments like (hello guys i made this subreddit at r/example i hope you join us). i got 2 subs. but i'm not sure where they came from...
I also started asking people on twitter and facebook to join.

Doing crossposting is good. maybe your posts aren't that upvoted for many people to see and that's why no one joining. But commenting on random posts to join your subreddit is a big no. you can do a little in your niche subreddits.

NICHE - No Fucking Clue...

I have it narrowed down to a few niches and each of them have their positives and negatives and I hold an interest in them all.

Gaming-
Pros: A metric fuck ton of subreddits and massive activity on each of them.
Cons: Not a clue on how to properly bank this niche.

Politics-
Pros: Highly passionate and opinionated
Cons: Highly censored and banking is a bitch

Outdoors-
Pros: Everything is considered outdoors
Cons: Everyone in this niche are actually OUTDOORS and not on reddit.

Weed:
Pros: Surprisingly a lot of subreddits
Cons: Sketchy Monetization.

Make Money Online-
Pros: Sucker born everyday
Cons: No one wants you in their subreddits because they want to make money and not you.

Thanks, I never thought I would enjoy reddit. I didn't like it as a website and thought I would hate it as a money making platform. The more I work with it, the more I get excited at the prospects.

I have read a lot of info and a lot of sources say to do this exactly. You have to be cleaver about it but its a clear and successful way of grabbing subs.

How many accounts are you using to crosspost? Your post might have gotten shadowbanned because you were spamming it from one account. Everything on reddit takes 10 minutes to do. You should also try and get upvotes as well. I have a really good trick that I think would help you and I might post it here in a later post.

You can totally do this. You can say something like "OMG I saw this post in /r/spamsubreddit as well" Or "I think the OP stole this from /r/spamsubreddit". I think its all in the way you do it.

It helps to think of Reddit purely as a traffic source and not the monetization mechanism. Most successful IMer's have the money part of the equation all worked out before they develop the traffic.

I see Redditors getting very angry at this. I think you could maybe pull it off in your own subreddit but i think this would be a good way to lose subs.

I will prolly go back and forth a thousand times on how I want this journey to progress and that is ok! This whole journey is a "deep dive" into Reddit so I am in no hurry to make cash. There have been some things that have forced my hands though.

I just created new accounts a day or two ago. It will be 2 months (60 days) before I can use those accounts to start new subreddits. So for now, I have my personal main account that I can use to start new subreddits on. I don't want this account to get banned or have anything happen to it so I really have to play it safe with this account. This is the account I will open my first few subreddits on as well as the account that should have the most success with because it will be the oldest account that was able to do anything with.

I think I am going to open different subreddits. One will be "Outdoors" and one will be "Gaming". I will then spend the next 2 months growing these accounts using every safe techniques that I can to grow them. I think the "Outdoors" subreddit will be a long game scenario which I will build out a website and an entire brand around. The "Gaming" subreddit I will grow with the intent of pushing a Quiz site model and as many other monetization methods as I can. I wont do anything with these two subreddits (other than grow them) till I am close to being able to create more subreddits on my other accounts.

I am going to attempt to grow these subreddits by mostly crossposting. I will do some testing with /aww on crossposting but my plan is pretty simple. I will pick a very successful post from yesteryear and post it in my own subreddit (I will make a "Aww" niche subreddit for testing). I will then cross post it with one of my other accounts to /aww (or later to a niche subreddit) and hopefully I will see it explode some growth. I will further test this by expanding my cross posting to other subreddits with my other accounts. If everything goes well after a few tests, Ill start doing the same within my Outdoors and Gaming niche subreddits.

I honestly don't know if this works or not. There is very little info around on how to successfully do anything on Reddit. I did buy @thescrrr Book on Reddit so I am hoping to gleam some good knowledge from that. There are some posts here on BHW that give some insight but for the topic as a whole, no one really wants to talk about Reddit.

I do see some interest in creating a ton of accounts and using them for crossposting later. I want to make sure my subreddits are safe before I make a ton of accounts and burn out my IP by chance and lose my subreddits. I will need a ton of accounts for both niches just for crossposting, yet alone upvoting. I want to see some forward progress before I invest heavily into proxies and possibly into something like Jarvee to help on some of the automation behind this. I am also going to look into https://ifttt. com for some other types of possible automation. Eventually (especially with the Outdoor subreddit) I would like to branch out into IG and Facebook Group to build out the brand.

My next moves will be testing my crossposting methods and then building the actual beginning subreddits of this Journey. I will also have to work on the karma of my other accounts as well.

Hopefully I will have some results to pass along in the next few days.

I have my old account with 3k+ karma (and the ONLY one i'm using to crosspost).
I have 4 new and warmed accounts with 200+ krama each (these accounts are basically just sitting around, i engage these accounts just to keep them active).
I have created 2 subreddits (i don't feel like sharing my niches).

My first subreddit has got 50 subscribers but it's is a bit of a copycat, so i don't have much hope in it...(don't create a subreddit that already exists because people will have no reason to join.), and in this subreddit created 4 posts and crossposted each post in 15 subreddits. 4*15= 60 crossposts. and i haven't got banned in any of those subreddit! (people actually don't hate crossposting... even heavily) so i will continue to use only my old account to crosspost.

My second subreddit has 2 subscribers and it's a bit unique so i have a some hope for it (not data for this one since it's too new)...

I will continue posting and crossposting my 2 subreddits
Look for other subreddit ideas...

Alright, so I would never normally do this, but I am going to move along before I have a proven concept. I could end up wasting a lot of time But I think I have a better way of going about this.

I Tested out crossposting from /aww to a subreddit I made myself and got very limited results. I think I rushed things to quickly and I now have to have mod approval for all my posts. I did manage to get a few subs to the fake subreddit that I created. I Think I will keep the subreddit to test out different methods if need be but I cannot wait for Reddit to lift the restriction.

I have created the Outdoors niche subreddit. My plan is to put up 500 posts from all over the internet and heavy focus on things old reddit posts. I am doing this for a few reasons. For one, the board is empty. I need to fill it out and I know 500 posts is overkill but it will also give me a ton of keywords in my subreddit when people search for something. I will of course re-title everything and make the titles more keyword dense.

While I am filling out the subreddit, I also will be making a list of all the subreddits that I can possibly crosspost to later. I am going to use the post popular posts to crosspost like I have stated before plus I am going to add a few new twists.

I am going to curate some popular images into a "listicle" that is highly shareable. I think this is going to help later as well when I build out the website and can repost older posts and edit them and add the website link. Along with this I will add a custom pic that has like 3 different images in a collage format.

My first step is to work on getting the subs up to a high enough level. After that I will start to work on the later stages of building out the brand.

Once I get this subreddit up and running I will do the same thing for the Gaming subreddit. I will focus on top ten lists and how to's for that subreddit. I also wanna focus on "how to be a streamer" type content as well.

A small suggestion if you went down the gaming route; if the sub really does take off, it is possible to sell advertising space as a stickied post or a post in the sidebar to company X, such as Corsair. You'd need to work out a rate with them, but it's not different to selling Sig space on here. I just used Corsair as an example, there's so many more you could pick up on.

It's a better alternative to affiliate marketing since you'll be getting paid regardless of how many sales are generated. Generally speaking though, if you're able to get people a discount or coupon code, this will result in a huge CTR.

I have a feeling that I will have to use a slew of monitization methods on that subreddit. I can't ignore the massive amounts of traffic the niche has but its always been a challage to make money from it. Its mostly ads.

If anyone can answer me this: Why are there people online? I am the only member and I just created the subreddit earlier in the day. I have seen the online number as high as 100 in the subreddit. I understand that people can be on the subreddit and not be a member but that seems like a stretch that 100 people where there when I just created it and it doesnt have that much content yet.

Reddit is very very saturated, you can find a sub on just about anything! really.
My browser is cluttered with tabs. i've tried all the tricks to find a "winning" subreddit!
I'll keep trying anyways because everything is saturated and this means that there could be a room for... maybe r/TaylorSwiftLeftFoot
