If all you are doing is crossposting from an account I am quite sure you could get shadow banned in a lot of niches. If you don't add value to the subreddit they can report the post as spam. Enough Reports and you get the SB. I don't know everything you did and the niche you are in but that would be my guess.
Reddit themselves tell you to crosspost to gain exposure to your subreddit. You can of course get SB if all you do is crosspost to 100 different forums and they keep reporting it. I believe you said you were in the adult niche and I am guessing they are a lot more lenient to constant crossposting.
This is a good tip. I did know this but I haven't gotten any of my subreddits very high right now. I am working on the systems to be able to duplicate this growth method over and over.
Yes. Crossposting is where you share a post from one subreddit to another. Most of the time you are sharing from a subreddit you own to a subreddit that has a lot more members. You are hoping that some of those members in the bigger subreddit will like your post, come over to your subreddit and join it.

I was messing around with some subreddits and trying to find a way that I could "crosspost" without actually crossposting to subreddits that don't allow crossposting.
I Think I seen something like this before in a post on this forum specifically for reddit but I am going to share it here now with you. It's the simple "watermarking" the post with your subreddit.
As you can see, you make a post like you would in your own subreddit but add your r/yoursubreddit (whatever your subreddit is). This will get past a lot of subreddits that don't allow crossposting but do not moderate image posting. If post approval is turned on, I'm pretty sure you are fucked regardless. It will help you get past what I would call "level 1" moderation methods. I have tested this a bit and am waiting to see the results on it.
I would make the watermark as small as you can but still readable to people browsing the subreddit. People are always looking for subreddits to join in a niche that they like. If you make your watermark too big, it will prolly get reported by some Karen. If you make it too small, youll lose the effect it has on introducing your subreddit to other people.

I think that's exactly what happened to my account. You correctly said it depends on the niche.
I was too eager to post on some nice subreddits like economy and after a few posts I got banned. Enough reports = shadow ban.
I guess I'll create more accounts and spam less lol

What you think about just putting quality content out there?
As you mentioned earlier then you wanted to do how to make money niche or something similar... Writing detailed guides, then pumping it up with upvotes + awards from yourself and waiting for these to go viral. I mean if you put out quality guides then crossposting shouldn't be an issue.
SEO wise - Take example of quora questions. Check what is trending via Google Search and modify the titles and just rewrite the content in a more keyword tense and engaging way - This is what I plan to do, perhaps hire a few cheap writers to rewrite the content.
If there are dozens of such guides in any of these subreddits that have dozens of awards then those channels usually generate a decent following as well. I did check a lot of subreddits in my niche and most awarded posts were just random nonsense but somehow they managed to gain traction, which tells me that good content should outperform the rest of the channels easily.
Quality content + Fake awards + Fake Followers seem to be the winning formula to get the subreddit going. At least until you don't need to post yourself all day long.

I didn't know that a post on a subreddit "goes viral"! are u sure about that? i think people have to be members on your subreddit to see your posts, so if you have 100 members... well that's as viral as it can get.

What I meant is that awarded post gets shared on social media and other places. Obviously the post needs to be top quality but this is why I said rewriting already existing content that has achieved good results.

I think this is a great idea. In some niches, this is what you have to do. I am rapidly finding out that Politics on Reddit is destroyed. You cannot mention Trumps name and every conservative board has been severely monitored. Liberals are not really as passionate as conservatives. If you want to have a hope in politics on reddit, you have to build out a website and share the links to the subreddits. Most dont allow crossposting.
I have tried several niches on reddit and have hit one form of brick wall or another and thats ok. You have to find the right content for the right niche and double down on it. In your case, writing well thought out guides and pumping them works great. But what if you dont want to invest in upvoting or you dont wish to risk your account? There are tons of different methods and ways to get traffic. In my journey here, I want to find a streamlined method that works for just about any niche by following one of several methods.

UPDATE:
I am finally starting to get some traction. I have a Small list of about 10 Subreddit that will let me crosspost to. I have enough content on my subreddit that I can start to really step up and crosspost like a mofo. I have worked out a lot of the kinks in my process and super excited to take the next step. Once you have your systems in place, the next step is to obviously scale up. My Next step is to start preparing for the enevitable bans that my accounts are going to take.
I am hoping to start to sky rocket up the subs in the coming weeks.

Sorry guys I have had a lot going on in my ebay business that I have not had any time to work on this project. I currently have 144 people in my subreddit from literally doing nothing the last few days. Ill do a better update when I work on this project a little more later in the week.

Oh I have a 5 year old account and it's let me crosspost as many times as I want (max I've done is like 5 for one post).
The subs I am posting to finally caught on that I was just posting a ton of times of pictures that weren't me tho
so fuck, you probably need multiple aged accounts for fastest growth

I was wondering what other ways of promoting would you suggest? I know crossposting is #1, unfortunately, I started crossposting but there aren't a lot of subreddits and the ones that are in my niche don't allow it, actually, most subreddits don't allow crossposting or promotion as a whole.
I was thinking of creating lots of accounts and then crossposting to the few subreddits on my nice, account creating wouldn't be from my IP (I don't want to risk my real useful accounts from getting banned). Should I use a proxy? or VPN? I've never done this before but I've been thinking it for a while.
What would you recommend? I got banned from one of the subreddits and I don't know what else to do...

What I've tried as like a seconday tactic, is commenting under the top comment, or just on the post in general and linking to your subreddit.
Like for instance saying "wow that's cool you should share it on this sub r/mysub" and that's another form of getting people to look at the subreddit.

Hopefully, you can give us a 2022 update? currently building up my own accounts, but looking to get subreddits going at some point, and will be following along.
