Yes, that's right, its depend on the volumeit depends on how much protection you need. many of the services that offer DDoS protection just protect you for a limited amount and small attacks.
if you get hit hard, then non of the cheap services will protect you good enough. see the fine print on how many GBbit/s the protection allows or what kind of DDoS.
real DDoS protection is very expensive it can cost 10k a month and more.
Yeah, Cloudflare looks like a good option..I Have three solutions to you.
firstly,Simple,cloudfare
secondly,asking your hosting provider whether theire service is with DDOS protected and how much DDOS you got.
Thirdly,security on your hosting server like ban ips,setup firewall.
