I recently started writing blogs to post on my portfolio website. I want to work as a freelance writer when I learn 'enough'.
Although I like writing and I am writing personal journals for a long time. I find no difficulty in writing those.
But when I write articles on topic where I need to do research for everything because that topic is very new to me, it's overwhelming. I think I waste too much time in content research, as I want to know 'everything', so that I can make quality content. But it takes too much time, like hours. And also english is my second language, I find it problematic to put all my thoughts into words.
To create and edit 1 article of 1500 words, I am putting 3 day to 4 days.
I want to ask from freelance writer, how much time you need to write an article on a completely new topic. And how do you write it fast, but with quality and without rewriting.

Research, read, and compile. I first check posts on the first page of Google for the main keyword to see what is included in those posts and what format they use. You'll find out that all of them are in the same format like maybe listicle or how to post so I know what will work.
Then I outline my post using all those posts from page one, and since I do skyscrapers I tend to cover more than any of them.
Then I just read them all one by one and instantly writing in my own words.
When I'm done I use Grammarly to change some words and also check quora and answer the public for some questions people ask that isn't answered in the post already and add that.
And baam..100% unique awesome blog post in a couple of hours even if I don't know shit about that topic.
You can also use speech to text tool to speed things up even more.

On a per article basis, I usually handle that in a few hours. My actual TAT depends on how many orders and internal projects I have in the pipeline.

The secret to 'research' is to be well-read

I read tons of reviews. I also follow lots of marketing accounts on Twitter.

Twitter exposes you to tons of content. It's like drinking off a firehose.

Another secret: write on many different topics. Eventually, you'll be familiar enough with enough niches that you stop wasting time on 'preliminary research.'

You take your keyword target, find an interesting twist or sub-theme and go to town.

I'm sorry if some dudes here find me offensive or against the herd (of sheeps here), but I can practically write 1500 words in 3-4 hours max. I had been writing for 7 months now, for a client in Israel. The niche is competitive and he barely gives a content brief, to speak of. All I get from him, is the question he needs the answer to. I own an agency as well and I train my guys to follow the exact process:

Research for 30-45 mins, and scan through and read all the damn materials you come across > put down notes in a notebook and go for a quick walk around > come back and may be, have a coffee or cigar and start dumping all the contents you have in mind, plus some other research materials as well > as I said dump it, and I meant it. Don't think about grammar and stuff just put down what you found and researched, in the form of content and again go out for a walk > come back and focus completely on editions. This time, make sure to focus since you're going to get the final product at this stage. I guess this process takes no more than 5 hours at most
