Links from sub-domain considered as internal links?

Hello guys,

I have a blog on a sub domain and I wanted to know if links from that blog to my main domain considered by google ranking algorithm as internal links.

If so, do they pass the same SEO value as regular internal links under one domain?

It really depends on the link structure in here,
if the subdomain is interlinked from the main domain and other subdomains, then it will pass some link juice,
if it's a stand-alone subdomain then I would say it will have a little to no power

Still have these interconnected questions:

- Are the links between domain and sub-domain considered as internal links? If yes, can I use money anchors pretty aggressively when I link from sub-domain pages to domain pages? (In my experience when you do internal linking under one domain, anchor ratio is not that important, but I don't know how it works between domain <> subdomain linking)

- Can I build a silo of content on sub-domain that will help to rank my money page on my domain? Or spreading the whole silo structure between domain and sub-domain doesn't work for ranking?

yes it is

I would go with main keywords as anchors giving some signal to google

it's not really that different from the main domain in here,
it's almost the same as going with a subfolder or using the pages in the main domain

Subdomains are considered separate entities from the root domain, consequently the links between the root domain and the subdomain are classified as external.

Actually, that is incorrect, a sub domain is classfied as a standalone domain in relation to the root domain. There is no interlinking between the two; only external links. Ask anyone who has any of these configurations. Or, better yet, find a domain with any of these configurations and run them through Ahrefs.

• Root domain + shop
• Root domain + forum
• Root domain + help desk
• Root domain + portfolio

A prime example is if your name is Ben Copper and you build a website on the WordPress.com platform.

It would look like this:

https://bencopper.wordpress.com/

Ben's subdomain is EXTERNAL from WordPress.com.

If Ben happens to receive a BL from WordPress.com, it will show up in Ahrefs as a RD, an external link.

That ain't true. Big company sites that have their content in different languages are treated as 1 domain, not as different ones. If that was the case, they wouldn't even bother to translate the content.

yeah google used to count them as different websites... don't know if anything changed but that has been the case since forever.

This is extremely timely because I'm currently in the middle of making a decision to move from subdomain to subdirectory.

If/when things go well, I may write a separate post on the outcome of that migration.

I haven't looked but I'm sure there are tons of them.

My system is...

I create a Excel spreadsheet called the Website Template, (for example: MyWebsite.com Template)

In that spreadsheet, I input every link that I create, that includes (pages, posts, and images).

I also indictate, which links are to be indexed, and which ones get tagged, NO-index.

I use that spreadsheet for backlink architecture, SEO Siloing, link building, internal linking, 301 redirects, migrating sites and locating 404 issues.

My point?

You should have some type of accounting of all of the links for your website and sub domains, AS YOU BUILD THEM!

That stated, I would run your subdomain through XENU to account for every single solitary URL on your sub domain.

Next, (before you move the sub domain) create a spreadsheet with the sub domain URLs pointing to the new "MATCHING" sub-directory URLs.

At that point, you have created your sub directory and all you have to do is activate your 301 redirects.

Your last step is checking and the rechecking your work; you want to make sure that you have no new 404s popping up.
