About two days ago I've received an automated email by my hosting service saying they've recognized a DDOS attack on my services and thus are migrating all traffic onto their infrastructure (Built in DDOS protection), and about 25 minutes later I got an email saying they no longer see an attack attempt.

This has never happened to me before, and I'm very new to the online services scene so I'm guessing my website did catch someone's eyes.

I heard about DDOS, blackmailing and an entire world of mafia in the internet industry. What were they trying to do? Did they check my protections, and had I not had DDOS mitigation would they have blackmailed me into paying so they don't attack?

Someone wanted your site to stop working. Maybe next time they can do it

My site is fairly young and new, about two months old I think. It's not a big competitor in the scene, and it's not a big scene considering its topic which is why I found it completely weird that I've been targeted.

Are you on shared hosting? Chances are attack wasn't directed at you if so.

LOL, Don't brag about it mate. DDOS are common like fucks. Happens to everyone, but it's so common people don't even mention it now!

Sounds like OVH.

It can be false positives as well or random attacks that just checks serval hosts and tries to bring them down.

You will get used to it. It's nothing special nowadays.

I actually found it flattering someone would even notice I exist, which is why I proudly mentioned it as my first ddos attack. And yes I'm aware of how much of a warzone the internet market is, what I don't quite get is how someone thought I posed a threat to anything.

Since I'm on a VPS wouldn't they know based on the type of packets and their target IP that it specifically targets me? And if so you're basically suggesting it's not because I am a threat but attacking me would hurt my physical vps' dedicated server?

IP shared or dedicated? And are you 100% sure its dedicated if thats a reply if on VPS
I'm pretty sure it is, I mean I haven't confirmed but I can not see why a respectable host service wouldn't give VPSs dedicated IPs. However I will mail them and ask to confirm.

Ahhh I remember my first one...

I was 10 year old and a 35 year old virgin on xbox live said "what's the shape of italy"

And I said "I don't know, what is the shape of italy"

and then came the boot up my ass.

Cod4 or MW2 by any chance?

Is it OVH? Because I had a server with them and 5 days after I got it, my site wasant even live I got that email as well. I guess it’s false positive
