About two days ago I've received an automated email by my hosting service saying they've recognized a DDOS attack on my services and thus are migrating all traffic onto their infrastructure (Built in DDOS protection), and about 25 minutes later I got an email saying they no longer see an attack attempt.
This has never happened to me before, and I'm very new to the online services scene so I'm guessing my website did catch someone's eyes.
I heard about DDOS, blackmailing and an entire world of mafia in the internet industry. What were they trying to do? Did they check my protections, and had I not had DDOS mitigation would they have blackmailed me into paying so they don't attack?
