I have this request from a competitor for guess posting.

He is already ranking page 1 for the keyword that I am after. My site is on page 2-3 at this time.

His website is 4 years old and mine bellow 1 year.

Would you do a link exchange with your competitor?

Absolutely, you have nothing to lose.

Yup, this lead to tameless uptake of your site traffic. but charge him high price ;)
I was thinking about that. But, I doubt he would agree to the price that I have in mind. :smirk:

i don’t think so link exchange is a bad idea, sooner or later he may do negative seo and tank your rankings
I would not, because if you do outrank him/her in anything they care about.
He/she might be a dick about it and negseo/remove link etc
I am not concerned about neg seo. At least not for now.
I was thinking more about not giving him more authority.

Anyway, I decided to pass.
Thanks for the input.

it is like coke and pepsi asking each other to offer other entities' products in their show room!

As long as your target group is big enough, I would do that anytime.
And here I think the big benefit is on your site. Just an opinion.

Probably not, as you will be helping to keep them on page 1, although it depends if I know them from a forum or something and they are friendly.

I did that, without realising that he has 3 pages targeting the same KW's as mine. I lost snippet for one of the KW after 3-5 days. :D

The answer is simple, No.

Why? Because you don't need knowledge, but logic.

If someone moved his ass to reach you out and propose you something, huh..... That must be good or more effective for him than for you.

Simple as that.

I personally would not do it; it’s counter productive to potentially be sending traffic to your competition along with link juice and ultimately making it a tiny bit harder for you to rank above them.

Good tactic from them, though; buying links for on the near by competition equals laser targeted backlinks for them.
