Try the English opening - a pretty solid one, and also you don't see it that often. When you get used to it you'll find yourself in familiar tricky situations while your opponent won't be as familiar and can make pretty stupid mistakes

As an Irish guy currently living in Scotland, I think I'd get the board thrown at me for playing something called the English opening.

For real, thanks though. I gave it a look and it does look interesting. I'm only around the 1k mark on Chess.com so far and I think the C4 opening would give everybody there a stroke.

Chess was invented in India and apparently in ancient times royalty would play it in a giant courtyard with real humans, horses and elephants for each piece, all in costume.

On either side would be two balconies that opposing players could sit and call out their moves.
