Lately I've been wondering: if someone PMs me asking to do a paid project, does this abide the rules?

I know there are very strict rules with this topic and I've seen several members being banned for something like this (not sure exactly how but mods talk about PMs)

Obviously if someone asks me for example, to do something I have explained in a topic, but they are not knowledgeable enough about the action to do it by themselves, or they don't simply want to put the effort, I could give an estimate.
Generally the right way for them is to post in "Hire a freelancer" asking for the job. But if they contact me straightly, is something beyond my control (and I rarely ever check the Hire a freelancer section).

But never sure if this was rule-abiding because it's not something I have proactively searched for and very rare.

Kind of a grey area, only way to be sure is to PM a mod for clarification. Better to be safe than sorry

In general if someone sends a PM to a member whos is allowed to sell or provide a service here to buy we are fine with that. If they send a PM to someone to buy who is not allowed to sell or provide a service we are not fine with that as that is a clear violation of the rules.

If they send a request because you baited the forum to buy a product or service that is an issue. That happens now and then in freebies and giveaways subforums, the AMA type of threads (gosh I personally hate them as they are look at me! threads usually) and is a violation of the rules.

This makes it a little complex but I understand what you mean.
As @SIR has mentioned, it's sometimes difficult to paint the grey line.
Surely, the AMA threads are ideal for this scenario I'm talking about. But any other kind of tutorial or explanation is obviously prone to this in a similar fashion.

As @GringoMonkey commented, I'm also not sure if you are talking about marketplace sellers and exclusive relationship with their services promoted, or Jr VIP in general as potential marketplace sellers.

I'm responding to this since it never received a closure notice back when it was posted.

@BassTrackerBoats answered this question.

Anyone who has permissions to sell on the site.
