Hey there!

The name is Dave and I'm 27 years old. "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive!" I live my life by that quote so just know I can get weird at times lol. If you're taking the time out of your busy day/night/morning to read this post I seriously pitty you... kidding! You're the bees knees lol!

Once upon a time I started coding back in 2006 when i was like 12 or 13 years old. Everything I knew was self taught on dial up internet, MySpace, and freehostia. Back then I started by coding and running those annoying MySpace whore trains. This was made possible by my future coding mentor that ultimately took me under his wing for years. It's seriously amazing how much you could learn just from a stupid MySpace whore train! I know most of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about... **hint**Just Google it lmao! **hint**

My most successful money methods/Coding breakthroughs were almost always discovered by mistake. I was exploiting a bug in a social rewards site beta called P2P rewards. During this time I only used MySpace as my primary traffic source for all my projects... it was all I needed.

I managed to code this script that was 100% on autopilot after a single deployment. After deploying the script I discovered what at the time I thought to be a bug on MySpace.**hint** The "bug" allowed my code to stay hidden on myspace while scaling itself at an alarming rate. It also added each user that viewed the hidden script to my MySpace friends list without their consent. Most users were completely oblivious they didn't add me and vice versa. The script ran undetectable for almost 3 months and received over 500,000 views in its final four weeks live. This was crazy to me because that was more than DOUBLE the views of the previous month according to my p2p metrics.

The method was only discovered after I got too greedy and started spamming the code on high traffic profiles. When I finally got detected as the source I had my 2 MySpace accounts that we're involved in the script get deleted and i was banned on p2p the next day. In the end I received somewhere around $5,000 total in free merchandise and gift cards over the 3 months. Once my accounts were deleted and not eligible for recovery, I decided to write a PDF! This explained how I exploited both MySpace and p2p and gave it away for free with all original codes and scripts in full. Over 100 people downloaded it as i made my final FU! **hint**

After experiencing that success I was HOOKED! All I did for the following 6 months straight was research and code. I love the challenges that come with the territory and I always figure out the impossible.... eventually lol.

After A LOT of time and energy I finally made it on top of the CPA world from 2008-2012. (Or what I would consider on top lol) Life was good! Then one Sunny day I believe it was in mid April 2012 our friends at Google decided to say... "Hey there guy, we see you've built this massive multi niche PBN for you and your affiliates... Well FU*K you guys and the sleepless nights you put in over the last 4 years! See here at Google we're going to completely curbstomp your PBN's and a few other high traffic PBN's you're associated. We refuse to accept you guys outsmarted our college grad devs. Then you proceeded rank so many sites so quickly that it made us piss ourselves! Well guess what? Not on our watch! Here at google only we can manipulate our algorithms to show search results for our benefit! Shame on you for following our lead!

All said and done my profits tanked from $750-$1000 a day down to like $20-$50 a day almost instantly, it was crazy! To be honest I was way too butthurt to start over at the bottom again, so I just threw in the towel!

After my retirement from the webmaster community I did the whole 9-5 job and wife thing from 2013 to 2019. I ended up catching her cheating on me with her boss 30 years her senior! Needless to say I'm now divorced, freshly unemployed due to COVID-19, and at rock bottom in life. But being at this new all time low I've finally realized... Back when I quit coding and left the webmaster community, I also left a piece of myself behind.

It's seriously unreal! I can't even describe the joy I feel as I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things. Idk it's just so nice to finally feel whole again. I'm currently figuring out my plan(s) of attack, but the more I read the more I change my approaches... DAMN a lot has changed lol.

Currently I'm just reading everything I can while scooping up any and all free tools along the way. I'm also heavily focused with "web 2.0's" (if that term is still even used LOL), subdomains, and social media right now. (It worked before!) Once I get a few decent methods that I feel will scale to my standards... then I'll actually have something useful to contribute.

I feel like anything I have to say starts with "back in my day" Lmao... wow I got way too baked before "Introducing" myself haha. I truly didn't intend it to be this LONG! But whatever idc... Fu*k it lol! If BHW is anything like it used to be this is my family and I know I'll be welcomed with open arms!

Anyways that's my life story! It's been 8 years since I was last on BHW it truly feels good to be back! If any of you actually read all of this and made it this far I owe ya one! Even if you just skimmed this but can relate to something I discussed or may even possibly remember me... You better drop a line in the comments... or at least just say howdy lol! It would be amazing to reconnect with some of my vets from 8+ years ago if their still around. I look forward to chatting and growing with everyone on here, while also contributing what I can along the way!

p.s. IMO Looking back now at that MySpace p2p coding experience... I strongly feel I stumbled upon the groundwork of the code that would eventually "changed the Internet" and ultimately led to the Uncle Sam, Google Buzz, Google Wave, Google Plus, HTC and ASF massive cover-up. If I knew back then what I know now I would have NEVER released that PDF or at least left our the scripts. But if I am the root cause by releasing the PDF my bad... I'll just use the same piss poor response we received from pre cover-up... "You can do everything with the greatest intentions, but it only takes one person with bad intentions to turn it into evil. We swear our intentions were good!" -- Google

If you don't have a clue as to what this last paragraph is about its better that way just ignore it! If you are familiar with what I'm talking about I'm curious what you think.

Yeah, honestly the golden days were back in the early 2000s where people were more naive & it was super easy to bot social media & websites.

Here's a story I'm willing to share today - I remember there was this free webhost and they only offered like 20mb of space and like 500mb of bandwidth. No sendmail, cgi/php or anything fancy. But if you got a site up, you could mail them for a small bump in space and bandwidth.

I did this innocently - and days later they upgraded my account to like 25mb of space and 1gb of bandwidth. But I checked my stats script and saw weird referrer - it was basically the link to their admin panel - a scrip they were using to manage accounts.

It wasn't password protected and it gave me the ability to create new hosting accounts and upgrade accounts with any amount of space, bandwidth, ftp, PHP/cgi, no ads, and pretty much everything else you can imagine. I could even mark the account as a paid account, making it impossible to tell (from that panel) whether I was a paying customer or not.

This was a company owned by a conglomerate worth over $250 million right now, but previously nearly $800 million in it's heyday - and here I was with full admin privileges to their hosting admin panel. I could take control of any hosting account, I could inject whatever code I wanted into any website hosted with them - even their main corporate website.

I didn't want to mess with this company because they had deep pockets, but I could have injected banners ads on a site that easily got 5+ million unique visitors across their network of sites.

Great story! I guess I'm not the only one who likes story time! I agree, that was definitely the golden age. I'm just glad I was actually able to see the profit potential back then. I'd never believe it if i didn't experience it first hand.

We could add a link to one of those "whore trains" saying you'd get 1,000 MySpace friends by clicking here and entering your email. Two hours later after posting that shit every 20 min for a span of 2 hours with a group of 20+ 100k accts and we make $1,000 easily in those 2 hours! Those OG USA email submits earning $5-$20 for just a simple email submission no bs! I remember when i was getting out in 2012 that's when everyone started raping France HARD with those cell subscription submits earning $20-$80/lead. It's crazy the shit we could get away with!

Honestly it sounds like you're describing freehostia right after they got bought out... it was a shit show of a merger! I just don't get how big ass companies like the one in your situation and the ones i mentioned just leave wide open back doors like its nothing! I feel it's become too acceptable now. Its not like anyone ever gets held accountable so why waste your time securing your clients data!

Its pathetic if you really think about it. For example Google uses plus to sell my data along with millions of others data from 2011-2018. Then when shit finally hit the fan and their scheme got attention. They just shut it down overnight along with all sites associated like goo[dot]gl. Then if they can't get you to sign their NDA they'll just buy the companies top devs out one by one until they get their necessary NDA signatures. Then i finally get a whole $12 settlement in the end! I know the shit goes way deeper and i understand why they played everything the way they did. If the truth of what actually happened got out to the public... The United States would turn into anarchy from coast to coast. The fact of the matter is the shit should have never happened to begin with!

Honestly i think you played your situation very smart and the company is very lucky lol. Idk like i said I'm a self taught coder/webmaster the fact that i understand the importance of web security and how it should be a priority not an after thought speaks volumes IMO. Coding is taught common sense isn't!

I haven't experienced the same situation as you did - but I know what it feels to be in rock bottom. For people who went through this dark pit - I love seeing them here.

I firmly believe this - Rock Bottom is the best place to be when it comes to suffering. Because the only thing we can do is go up.

Yes you're correct this forum and another one I would turn to religiously for reference and to ask for help when i absolutely needed it. But a forum's only value is the community that backs it and from what I've seen the community has not changed much here and I find that amazing after being gone for 8 years!

I met some truly selfless people here in the past. The types of people that would give anyone who's not a piece of shit the shirt on their back if they needed it more than them! Its rare to find people like that in life especially without judgment and to find that on the internet is very rare! The fact I found people like that on a "black hat" forum still amazes me to this day... In theory that's not supposed to happen and we're just scum spammers lmao!

Idk i can already tell this is going to be a long post so i apologize in advance. I just can't say enough about how much the community here helped me over that 4 year span with PBN's.

Even just simply having someone to listen to you ramble like you and others are now with myself I've always valued greatly! That can truly make a difference to someone who may not have that luxury of being able to talk or be vent to people in their personal life.

For example In 2009 my grandmother died at age 55 from alcoholism. This women basically raised me and i considered her my mother. I'm still not the same person after that even 12 years later. But I can honestly say without the love and support i received from the guys and gal i met here my "team" as i called them i wouldn't be here today today. I was in a deep spiraling depression i couldn't get out of alone! I

Idk after experiencing that compassion from people I've never met in person can really change a person. I learned to always be as personal as possible while still maintaining my safety and a certain level of anonymity I'm satisfied with. If you don't get on that personal level with people or as i call it being "fake" you'll have a rough time in this line of work, why go at it alone anyway?

In the end we all have the same finish line in sight, why not help each other get there faster? The most valuable information i have received in the past would always be from someone or a place i least expected.

But honestly to me being a webmaster is more about networking and making contacts than anything else. You can have the freshest unseen niches, advanced seo knowledge etc. None of that means anything if you're alone and don't have a network of contacts you trust and can turn to when needed! But to me that's just basics of running a business which is what we're all doing in the end. A business owner who doesn't take networking , making contacts , or self promotion seriously is setting themselves up for failure. Its always the little things that help you more in times of need. Every post we make could make a huge difference in how the community accepts you and that will ultimately lead to your rise or demise!

Now back on track lol... Technically you would be right... but let me ask you this... how can you waste potential that you don't fully comprehend you possess yet? I've only recently realized the mistake i made back in 2012. The level of knowledge I would have gained by sticking with it honestly sickens me when i think about it!

But to be honest the numbers i was producing seem impressive in 2021 but you can't even compare how things are now to how they were back then. I've been lurking around for about a month or so absorbing as much as i can especially before i start voicing my opinion on a forum (more should take this advice)

To put it into perspective a little better... currently with my limited "old school" knowledge of the way things used to work... i almost feel like I'm lost in a foreign country where i don't speak the language. Over the last 8 years I've become more of the type not the type to give up, essentially i finally grew up. So now its time to grab life by the balls learn the language and make things feel at home again in my new environment.

As like most things with me why i stopped isn't such a simple answer. I think it's best to give some background info on myself to be able to try and see things in my shoes.

Growing up I was severely obese and was bullied daily up until about 9th grade. I'm a sheltered white kid in New England that grew up with parents i could never please. I've been trying to make the words "I'm proud of you" come out of my father's mouth for the last 27 years, I'm finally convinced it will never happen.
Those were the main factors that led to be being diagnosed with depression and almost in the stage of manic depression at a young age.

Now this next part very few people know about me but i feel it will pull everything together. I started smoking pot daily at age 13... agree with it or not it became a part of me and never let me down. Now when my grandmother passed and i was in that deep depression i tried cocaine for the first time. HOLY SHIT i never understood it until I was experiencing it myself i was 100% hooked after the first line. I was snorting around 2 grams a day everyday for about 6 months at my worst.

Until a good friend finally couldn't take it anymore sat me down and made me realize the path I was headed. So that was in 2009 fast forward to 2012 when i had 4 years of the most effort I've ever put into anything in my life literally get taken away almost instantly... i ended up releasing BAD after that!

I knew I had a problem when i was stuck in rehab and career crack heads were impressed with my stories during share. But I was also just a dumb kid that never saved because most of my extra income went straight up my nose! So when that happened i had no income and was actually living in my car due to my parents kicking me out after my recent cocaine and rehab adventures at that time.

I guess I felt i needed a complete 360 and form a more stable but boring traditional life... basically i just wanted to get my shit together, so i gave it a shot. I also thought in the back of my mind i didn't have a future with coding at that time.

I became very arrogant in the last 6 months onwas around and in march 2012 i had a conversation with one of my partners i wish i never had. This is when PBN's were getting slain like no tomorrow we were all on edge in the community.

Me trying to be Mr.Positive and cheer up my team i said like a dumbass "It's just the rookies their hitting bro, that shit won't happen to us or it would have already happened over the last 4 years.... we're untouchable!" well karma had other plans and decided i needed a wakeup call and we got hit in April. It was a sobering experience for real and made me think i wasn't as great as i built up in my own mind. Now keep in mind i grew up being told daily i never doing anything right. I just wrote it off as another thing to add to that list. I brought that bad juju on myself i just wish it didn't effect my team also!

Again sorry for my long ass responses. I'm sure if i just answered by saying "well i got depressed did a lot of coke learned somethings matured and now I'm back baby!" Your opinion of me would be nothing positive.

Now i feel if i take the time and and explain everything in depth of my mindset and way of thinking people put themselves in my shoes and become more understanding. 8 years ago you would have gotten the two line response. Maybe people who would have wrote me off in the past won't now due to me taking the time to explain everything in detail. The fact that you even care the slightest about my journey means more to me than you will ever know! Feel free to reach out anytime if you're curious about updates or just to shoot the shit! I'm trying to be humble this time around so i probably won't post public updates here unless i need help or I'm asked by someone. Once i get my mojo back and start getting some money coming in I'm strongly considering starting a blog telling my story in detail while showing all previous milestones/projects, and continue it with all current and future project updates and just stuff i find of value. My way to give back and help people motivated enough to be successful. If it helps just 1 person it would be worth the effort! New webmaster bring value others always have refused to admit for some reason. In the end if you see them as possible partners instead of competition or the "enemy" you will benefit.
