Google Broad Core Update December 2020

All these top tech companies and no one can make a half decent web search?

I think they can. Just that people don't demand it.

Users should demand better, more open search. When they do I'm sure another company will do it.

The problem is "people" like convenience I mean the average person doesn't know what rights they give away let alone care about privacy to make the switch to anything different.

Then of course the other issue is the money involved for such a project if you get investment people want returns and that's when the waters get muddy.

As you said people need to request it and for that to happen need to be far more "awake" when using the interest. We also just need someone with the money and resources to produce something and then just set it free. Neither situation is happening any time soon sadly!

things are getting better [hope it will settle in upcoming weeks] because of this update my ranking down and traffic -50% both website diffrent niche one adult and discuss forum warez.

I would love to see companies like Oracle and Dropbox throw their hats into the Search arena.
Oracle because.... Oracle.
Dropbox because there has to be something truly remarkable about the talent that much exist there, as for whatever reasons, Guido decided (when we all very much know he didn't have to) to work there for 6 1/2 years. That, in and of itself, is one hell of an endorsement, in my opinion.

There are other companies, of course, that would be a good fit for doing such a thing. We all already know that Apple is up to something, though we don't really know what their intended endgame is with it.
Omnity originally wanted to be the search engine to defeat Google, but they ended up going in a different direction.
Microsoft already has a phenomenal search engine, but it just never really caught on, when compared with Google. It's understandable, and for so many reasons.

For example, muscle memory. The letter 'G' is right in the center of every keyboard, right next to your index finger. It's so easy to just press 'g' and then press 'Enter' (assuming your autocomplete activates).
For example, all these mobile phones, tablets, phablets, etc... When you type in a search query, you're directed to the Google SERPs, as the default. Most end users likely don't change from default.
For example, muscle memory. Now, the word 'search' has become so synonymous with Google, that 'Google' has taken on a new life as a verb. 'Search online for it' has been largely shortened to 'Google it'.

There are far more reasons than this, which can lead to a sense of hopelessness from these companies.
..talk about an uphill battle...

As much as I do love Bing (and I do love Bing), it's not enough.
I think Bing would be able to do something better, but I feel they'd have to scrap that name, do some serious rebranding and make themselves the default search in as many devices as possible.

Or perhaps they feel like the wheel is already invented and so there's no need to invest all the time, money, effort, resources, and headaches required to reinvent it.

I do love Google. What they've been able to create and accomplish, is nothing short of monumentally impressive. It's just that lately, they've been messing up -- a lot.

I got massively hit by this update. Pretty much all my articles are down in the SERPs and at least 3 of them that were ranking in the top 50 are completely out starting today. This is my first experience getting negatively affected by a Google Core algorithm update. Any advice on how I can recover from this as it is extremely demotivating for a beginner blogger like myself. :(
If these rankings don't bounce back I think this is the end of my SEO journey.

In my opinion, Google should see things like this as a major punch in the gut. As a business, I don't want to see people who are genuinely just starting out with utilizing my business, to be left with such a bad perspective of what my business does and with very limited or perhaps even no information as to why and / or any information about when things may be resolved.

BUT WAIT! Google shouldn't care about SEOs, right?
Wrong.
While true, there are numerous SEOs out here trying to completely game the system by using shady tactics that are borderline or outright unethical, there are also numerous SEOs that are not.
They should care about SEOs because we are the ones making sure that Google has the ability to allow their functions to find the most suitable data to deliver to their end users. We are feeding their spiders with the information their systems depend on. We know what Google wants [and needs] to see and so every day, we strive to deliver just that.

We're the ones responsible for getting businesses to invest into Google Ads. We're the ones split-testing and as a biproduct, earning them more money. We do a lot for Google. We're even giving them plenty of data to scrape from us, free of charge. They should care about us. We work hard for Google.

Will there be a better suited search engine to compete with Google? I believe there will be, and especially if the current trajectory continues. There comes a point where it becomes inevitable. I don't believe we've crossed that point, yet. The primary reason I say this is because I don't think most people notice all the changes in the Google SERPs. Mostly it's us who are the ones paying attention to things like this. If you don't believe me, simply go ask your aunt what she thinks about these recent sensor levels. Right now, the average end user isn't noticing. Once the average user starts noticing their search queries returning irrelevant and / or weak results, and this trend catches on, we will then start inching the way towards inevitability.

We're already seeing such relevancy issues happening, but again, we're in the space of searching keywords. That's what we do. Naturally, we're going to notice things like this, should things like this exist, to begin with.

Anyway, those are my two pennies.

Our site has recovered (a little) it pulled back over the weekend (as we thought it would) but it's no longer sitting top / mid page 1 rather closer to the bottom however all other keywords seem to be back. Still work to do though!

We've seen the same on our main #1 money page.

Went heavily down on Friday. Like dramatically. And since that day, it's been slightly improving every single day.

Hope it works that way for a while. After all, we haven't done any shady linkbuilding - and our content is far better and more precise compared to our competitors.

It's not an English website btw.

The sad thing is that there is little to no demand for a google competitor. google is a monopoly, yet they cleverly help out smaller search engines in order to not look like a monopoly. We are at a point where a company controls the entire internet, that's like HBO owning all cable and streaming websites. Google has to be broken up, the search engine has to be separated from everything else, if not we will start seeing google owned companies showing up in the first page and the organic listings on the second one.
The problem is that we are digging our own grave, google's AI is smart and it takes only a flip of a switch to make thousands of google owned websites written by their AI, and guess who's content they are going to use to generate the articles, urs, and mine.

Imagine a world where most of the first-page search results is owned by google, plus a couple of "high authority websites" and the line between organic and paid listings are so thin that they are barely noticeable, sounds familiar?

Google just want revenue, SEO for anything main stream is today almost pointless, you need to advertise with Google. It is just like selling on Amazon, the first items are either from Amazon or big sponsored. As someone else says, they have a monopoly. One segment I work on has banned paid ads, yet on search, there they are, paid ads. Blatent as well, yet they do nothing. Amazon rip them for fun, they advertise all sorts of things to bypass Google ads controls, because they can. Back to printed ads and billboards hey !

I'm actually confused right now because GSC looks like my main site got wrecked on impressions and clicks, but my analytics traffic looks fine and my last few days of affiliate income have been normal.

sucks to suck I guess idk apparently I have no idea what I'm doing anymore

Other traffic sources like Bing?

If I suck Google balls like this will my sites rank better?

lmfao

We live in a world, where people complain that story driven PC games are "too long", because they have attention span of a fruit fly. "I don't want more content for my money!"

Expecting people to actually "demand" better search results is a Don Quijote level of naivity.

The society in 2020 is a celebration of averageness. From movies, music, games, all the way up to the information they receive and are satisfied with.

People are okay with what they are getting and they do not need anything more. Do you expect your average converting site visitor, who is basically just a monkey that can use knife and fork, to actually appreciate the quality? Or even more, to demand it? Oh fucking please.

The overall intellect levels of humanity as a species have been rising ever since our grandfather fucked a dead mammoth. The intellectual levels of an individual are abysmal. It's ridiculous how fucking dumb your average person is. And now imagine, that give or take half is even dumber than that. And it's getting worse day by day.

And that's the reason why Google won't go anywhere in the upcoming couple decades. Because they do enough to please the society, which doesn't require more than to eat, piss, shit, sleep and occasionally fuck, watch the Avengers and listen to 6ix9ine, or whatever talentless shit people listen to these to satiate their need for "art".

How do you give better search results?

This sounds wonderful in theory.

What is better results?

This is a blackhat forum, where for years people have pretty much focused on making money solely, and people are moaning that the search results aren't "good".

But, what about a couple of years ago, when the search results were full of authority sites. Everyone moaned.. "big G only favors massive authority sites. boohoo".

So which is it? Do you want the serps filled with only mega authority sites?

Or do you want the smaller guy to have a chance?

by 'better' search results at least have the self awareness to say "I just want MY site to rank so *I* can make a ton of money"

Search is pretty hard. How do you do it? Links? They tried that, and it's easy to manipulate. What makes your site better than another site? The links? The content? Why is it better? Because it's yours, or because it actually provides a better experience?

The demand is there. It's just not strong enough yet.

I hope to someday convince myself to have a bit more faith in humanity, so while no, I don't expect it, I hope that one day they will, as they input:
Code:
who is the best Marvel character?
and then Google starts returning shit like:
Code:
Johnny Cage

I feel like then (and only then), my hope may be realized, and that people will demand quality improvements.

One interesting things when it comes to two of my websites. Both have same theme, written by same writer, published and structured in same way. Same link building on both. Both have over 200 articles.

The difference is the niche.

One of the site lost 50% and one went up 30%. The losing site had real persona but the winning site had fake persona. So doesnt seem to be e-a-t. Another difference is the winning site is much older, but other than that i cant find other differences.

Makes no sense at all and seems to be just random haha :)

Lets see if they Will revert the update in the week

At this moment, DuckDuckGo gives better results. For most of my terms, I am still ranked normal on there. Google still has most of the traffic, however. For SEO we are stuck with where the traffic comes from for optimizations. For most of my terms I am ranked on there like I was on Google until a few days ago.

Plus side, my traffic is a little better than it was a day or two ago. The terms I've check by hand appear to be the same. Of course, Mondays are always more busy on the net anyways so maybe it proves zilch.

Exactly.

As I've said, it has nothing to do with blackhat, whitehat or link building.

It is the AI trying to figure out what kind of pages people want to see and it's constantly learning, it's constantly being tweaked. It's a difficult problem. It's not just about pure links or pure relevancy.

The AI is actually looking at everything. The images, the colors, the layout, the fonts. It's trying to work out patterns for the type of pages people want to see for different keywords, topics etc.

Look at both the sites and try to objectively understand how your pages differ from what's currently ranking after the update, as a human, with a human eye.

Also bare in mind that this update is definitely a shaky one, and it will change over the coming weeks because there are some weird results showing.
