This update is extremely disappointing. My website took a hard nose dive 24 hours after the rollout started. I'm building links completely white-hat and I'm totally surprised that I was outranked by low-quality sites.

Has anyone ever had a 50% decrease at the start of a core update and then bounced back before the update finished? Is there any hope?

Are you building links? It's blackhat!

This is just 1 example out of many. I've seen 300 words pages rank for payday loans uk yesterday. In my opinion, there will be a small rollback to fix this or at least an update.

Something else I have noticed.

All of my sites that have a GMB are ok.

The ones without a GMB have been hit.

This is quite an interesting observation, I'm seeing something similar with my sites.The 4 that have gmb have improved, including one that had tanked to the 70s in the May update is back to the top tens. Will test and see if slapping a gmb on one of the ones without will have an effect.

I am very happy, the third day that my website only goes up on SERP. I'm recovering from the May update. My accesses have already increased by 80%

I just noticed a site of mine that lost lots of traffic in May has improved.

Not to May levels but its x3 in traffic since the update a few days ago.

I have not touched this website in years. No improvements made at all.

Got slammed in May, seeing partial recovery now.

In the interim, we got some powerful links (WH - we didn't even realise they were there for a while), did a bit of work on content/structure and some minor page speed stuff.

But who knows if any of that helped? Could just be the rollercoaster. Just hoping the uptick sticks!

Do you think it's normal for the sensors to be so calm in the last few days? Basically it was only on Friday that the sensors showed high changes. From what I have followed in other updates, sometimes the sensors stay a week or more to indicate high changes.
I currently see in SERP sites of poor quality to dominate, sites that load in another 10 or 15 seconds to dominate the top 4 or 5 positions of high volume keywords. Many pinterest in niches nothing related to that. It all seems very strange to me...

What's the alternative? Bing? Common, be serious. Something else has to be cooking somewhere, after the DOJ lawsuit. The lawsuit will not end up well for Google. To counter that, they need to be better than now. People's choice.

I know no one is Google. And frankly no one can replace Google as well atleast not in the near future. But still we have to look into alternatives. Because currently the SERP's are just sh*t, plain and simple.

Sites which hasn't been updated for years are ranking better than sites with robust updated info and all.

Just go and check for yourself, the SERP's are filled with outdated content and content which serves no meaning. Many of them doesn't even have a SSL installed. And still they are outranking one of the most prestigious sites of that category.

Some are saying that they are recovering from the May update. But their number is very small. The site owners who have worked hard after the May debacle, most of them hasn't recovered 20%.

And the worst part about this update is that the traffic numbers keep falling every day. Since it started rolling out or the time when Google announced it, anyway.

I know what you're saying. I am fed up with spam, or so called parasites. But I still can find the right answer within the first 2 pages. It's pretty good, in my opinion.

I can assume for English queries, Bing can do a decent job. But what about the rest of the world? There's no alternative to it.

I gained around 80% on this update and seems pretty stable. Compared to September, I've lost a lot but November was the worst month, so a 80% increase is not a big deal anyway. I still have a lot to fix in terms of page speed, I suck at this atm. No links were built in November, just organic links I got from other sites - some were actually pretty damn good domains. Oh, and some PBN links, that I forgot to mention.

But now I look at the SERPS and see the sites behind me and I think: why they are ranked below me? They're better than mine, at this moment. I have to be honest, I have a lot to improve and a lot of $ to burn on development. Not to mention their link profile, is 10x times better than mine. Why these sites are below me?

And spam/parasites: why Google is unable to fix it somehow? Why all .edu redirects are still showing up in the first positions?

for some days, my ranking on both site was better day by day, ~2k impressions and ~40 clicks daily, not big but ok.. i still got some customers.

Our site has recovered (a little) it pulled back over the weekend (as we thought it would) but it's no longer sitting top / mid page 1 rather closer to the bottom however all other keywords seem to be back. Still work to do though!

It's too early to say that it will cost you that much. I've had sites that have tanked in early days of update and came back better at the end. So far, I don't remember 'losing' a site permanently to any update, other than the Panda, but that was the wild west back then. Good days, when a few thousand russian spam links would get you at #1... .

As for the second part. I don't think that's how you build a working long-term relationship. Are you going to change SEO guys/agencies every 3-4 months or every week, depending on how small updates affect you on day1?

It's not an excuse, it's an explanation of the situation as it is. Whatever you do, you don't get away from an update and nothing is settled before it's over. If you know SEO guys that are constantly 100% immune to updates and rank sites in top 1-3 in competitive niches, please let me know so I can talk to them and learn something .

It sucks, but that's how things are with Google. When you helped a site get thousands if not hundreds of thousands and you showed results before, you're an authority. You've proven yourself, they will trust you. It's all about being long-term, I don't do 1-2m SEO "gigs" and I don't work with clients who want that.

From the face of that update (I'm experienced enough to wait for results to finish and see what impact it has) I was going off the "face" of the update the loss was looking like a big 30k hit, small / medium size business taking that kind of dump is hard and that's the kind of thing that results in staff being let go!

I dunno for me id not be chop changing seo agencies in fact we do it all in house now (that's another story) however if I was not experienced as I was and I took that update purely on the face of it as many other businesses would and my seo guy told me to relax or chill then id be cutting ties with them.

Yeah they might have explained to me before hand what to expect and no guarantees and all that but you still get a pay cheque coming from me when my site has taken a dump. I come looking for support and advice not an unsympathetic "I told you this can happen"

That's all I'm saying. If all I'm getting from my seo guy is a "well thats google for you" kind of reply. I'm saying that's where my first wage bill cut is going to be ...

I think they can. Just that people don't demand it.

Users should demand better, more open search. When they do I'm sure another company will do it.
