If everyone over the age of 70 got corona virus it would result in 2.5 million deaths.

If it spreads unchecked hospitals will become saturated, hospitals will run out of beds, and even makeshift hospitals would run out of doctors and nurses. Using the National Guard and Military Reserves wouldn't help, because most of the Dr's and Nurses in those are Dr's and Nurses in the civilian world as well.

If there are no hospital beds and all the doctors and nurses are already attending to other people, how will they be able to deal with injuries, other illnesses, heart attacks etc.

Consider that this is for *all* covid deaths, including those that were obese, diabetic, with heart disease, etc. If you wanna talk about the longterm effects or protecting old people 70+ years old --- fine. But don't make it about death for the general population.

9,120,751 cases in the US times 1 in 18 = 506,708? Yet there's only 233,130 deaths in the states? Or I guess I'd need to know how many people are in the age group first. Frig that's annoying!

Anyways, when looking at the actual numbers, they might not look like a lot in comparison to the 150,000+ coming from elderly people. But there's still thousands upon thousands of children who lost their mother or father. There's still hundreds and hundreds of parents who lost their young teenager, child, or baby. Although elderly or not, I don't see how any of this matters when it comes to lockdowns / masks. They're all human lives. I can understand the mental health claims and other issues related to lockdowns. But it's annoyingly stupid when people start going on about conspiracy theories and governments trying to control them, etc.

Edit: September 11th was tragic for the entire world. It took under 3000 lives, and also gave life-long health problems for many rescue workers. I don't seem to remember anybody referring to it as an insignificant amount. But now every few days or so, we're losing the same amount of lives.

In my country, gyms and recreation areas are closing. Restaurants are closing. With the slightest protest, fines from several to several dozen euros.
There is huge propaganda on TV about what a bad disease it is. Doctors do not take. They don't heal. At all. Unless privately - you pay - they invites you, even without a mask.

Recent new restrictions = significant increase in infections.


Restaurants closed. A lot of people lose their jobs and their lives.

On Facebook? Same "haha" and "wrr" reactions. Nobody agrees with the government's decisions. Everyone knows there is a virus, a maximum of a few % negate it. But almost 100% doesn't agree with actual restrictions.

In our country:
- "it's ok at the moment, but it will be bad"
- "we have to do more tests"
- "it's bad"

MORE TESTS = MORE SICKNESS.


And now my questions (perhaps rhetorical) to you: Why only politicians think about a complete lockdown? Why only politicians suggest restrictions?
I'm not denying the virus. I am not a flat eater. I deny the idiotic behavior of governments almost everywhere in the world. This is fucked up.

Playing on feelings is weak. You will write "I wish this would not happen to your family or to you". OKAY!
But there are many other, more dangerous diseases that can also affect us. This is not a reason to shut down hospitals, make a huge mess of old people watching TV, and shut down almost every branch of the economy.

Why are we acting like people don't die (needlessly) already though? Every year dozens of millions of people die from diabetes, obesity, heart disease, lung cancer, driving, influenza combined --- yet I don't see any media outrage or government intervention stopping me from eating 20 doughnuts a day, smoking, or driving. You might argue that "it's different" but to me it's objectively not. There are risks associated with all of those things, and sometimes you risk others' lives as well (as is the case with driving, smoking, and going out with the regular flu). We have historically had the right to do things that might result in death for a small % of people but now we don't.

I don't know whether or not this is about the government controlling us, China destroying the economy, Trump losing the election, etc. but I think it is silly to say that those things at the very least aren't plausible. Nothing is off the table when something unprecedented happens.

Numbers don't lie though and the numbers say young/healthy people are mostly fine. Let the young people go out, advise young people who live with old/compromised people to take extra precaution, and set up government-funded free delivery services for all people who are at a high risk.

There are countries who didn't lockdown at all (Sweden) and countries that locked down HARD (Germany, other europe) and guess what? 9 months in, we're all fu*ked the same. But at least Sweden didn't suffer the other effects like economic crisis, suicides, etc. It's impossible for humans to "lock down" and kill the virus in 2 weeks like everyone dreams of doing, because we are collectively too dumb to do it. So, the next best thing is to live with it and protect the weak.

The news has said several times no underlining health problems but died from covid.

Uk here we get interviews from tv health sectury and maps there the ones announce death with or without underlining health problems each case.

If you can look them test up your see there plenty of covid deaths without underlineing illness
