Question about WP update 5 year old posts and seo

Hi guys,

I work on a wp website for 5 years now. I have 15k posts manually done all of them.
Now, the niche is movies with videos, photos, reviews, etc.

The image/videos content from back then (5 years ago) are dead and i start to revive the old posts (fresh content, images, videos, etc) - BUT not chaning the perma link or date published.

My question is : because are so old dated, if i updated them WITHOUT change the date and bring the date to 2020, google will see my work and give theose posts life? Or i will have to change the post published date for all the updated content?

I think there’s a plugin which automatically updates date when ever you update a post I’m not sure what’s the name of it but if you can find that plugin it should solve your problem

The question is are those posts still valuable? Will the still solve the problems of the searcher?

My advice is that you rewrite those contents and republish them. If they don't seem to be useful anymore, then delete.

I don't wanna bring the review movies from 2015 to the home page, by 50 per day, when my 100% relevant are from 2020. But every post is still valuable , yes, and bring traffic and rank (people make backlinks for them).

The most of the people come to look for videos with behind the scene etc witch now are deleted because of the old date. I put new videos, fresh up the content, so the posts will be good and people stay long on the posts.

So @Xdfffninja @Mr Positive my question is : google will see my work and give theose posts life if the date is 2015 but i updated them with content today? Or i will NEED 100% to change the post published date for all the updated content? The problem and my question is because i need to to that for 10k of posts in the next 6 mounths and that's insane. After doing that for 6 mounths the 2020 content will be last in my website and i don't really wanna do that.

You will need to CHANGE THE PUBLISHED DATE to make Google somehow think that it's a new article.

Some themes like Generatepress (which I use) allow you to set the updated date as published date on the front end (with some tweaks) so you don't have to republish.

If you don't want those posts on the front page, then you will need to get a theme or plugin that does something like what I mentioned before and then submit the URL to GSC to get it reindexed.

Thanks for the info, now i get it. One more question, i don't update the publish date and i updated/changed 1k of posts already in the last 2 weeks.

Can i bring the 1k to today date with a plugin, all of 1k posts in 1 day, or i will get penalized even if was honest work?

In Wordpress there is a last updated field in your sitemap, so google already knows when your page has been updated on one of the old posts.

@Panther28 i read now that google watch out for the url+last updated field that you mentioned.

But if my old post was down last in google because it was missing some neccesary videos (witch people come to see) or even deindexed by google in search results because low traffic, if i updated the content 90% and not update the post date, can it revive like a new publish post? Or that last updated field has not that much power like a re-published post?!

if you get what i mean -->> like imdb,in my case, they don't revive content from 15 years ago and bring them to the front page, but they update the content.

I don't really know if there's a plugin that does this in the way you want but I easily do it on one of my WP websites with some tweaks on Generatepress theme.

There should be a plugin though, but I haven't ever had to research on that..

And yes, you can do it to 1k per day and I don't think there will be a penalty for that.
