Hi BHW,
It's my first day here but there is no time to waste!

Note: This is more of a way to track my progress and to learn from my mistakes. Suggestions are appreciated

Plan:
Create a blog around a niche that was huge 2-3 years ago but has calmed down. This is possibly a bad thing but I will roll with it as I am into the niche as well . So this is more of a hobby project than anything. Cash is just a bonus!

I have decided to use Namecheap (not affiliated with them) as I have used their service in the past and I can approve that it is a quality product.

Current goals:
[ ] 100 blog posts
[ ] 10 daily visits
[ ] One whole dollar in revenue

Simple goals I know but it's a start.

Monetization:
Now there are many ways to monetize this niche but I am choosing 2 for now:
- Ads
- Affiliate links

For the ads -- at least for the time being -- I will be using a-ads (again not affiliated) as I have used them in the past and was payed out accordingly.
The affiliate links are mostly Lifetime Revshare which is a really good considering many people are just introduced to the niche.

Revenue:
- $1.18 for a .xyz domain name (snatched a good one )
- $2.88 for hosting
- $4.06 total

Now I am not an SEO expert by an means and that field is new to me. So I will be looking around on this forum to get some

Jokes aside I really love this forum as it is a haven of information freely distributed by the users of the forum. Hope to learn something for you guys and thank you for the attention!

If you have any suggestions that could improve my venture please let me know .

P.S. I will keep this thread updated on a weekly basis. Or if I hit a milestone.

P.S. I will not be using that piece of shit WordPress. There are so many lighter and non-bloated alternatives out there that I still do not understand why do people use that crap? Sorry I went through that tangent just expressing my frustrations.

I understand that but that's what I got to start with. Always can get a better domain and do a 301 on the .xyz one.
Hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass...

Wordpress is good. But buy .com domain. It is good for authority website. Peoples are mosly trust and visit .com domain websites.

Understandable. But I also want the users to have a smoother experience. And also I would like to have an easier time writing articles. Wordpress is extremely bloated, slow, and chews up bandwidth and resources. There are plugins like Rocket but I believe I will use one of the alternatives and see how it goes. Who knows maybe I switch to Wordpress.

I’ve worked with my own CMS in the past and it has been a hell of a lot faster, and more customisable, but there are some plugins and features Wordpress has which would be very hard to implement. As long as your path doesn’t affect your site SEO wise, you should be good Maybe an external source would be good for your content, something like Surfer SEO

Definitely. I chose to use WP for now. But I am making my own blogging program and will be using git control to update the website on the server. I will post more about it here when I am done

Also yes. It has become quite bloated. And PHP isn't the best performing language considering we have rust, go, and others.

Definitely. Probably once the site grows I would need to look into rebranding it. But for now it should stay as is.

For sure. That is one of my main priorities. Probably will get it once I start turning in some profits. Until then I'll stick with the .xyz one.

Week #1

The first week has gone quite well. Posted ~8 posts achieving my 1-2 posts a day goal.

I have promoted my posts on Facebook and Reddit and my current stats are at ~179 active users. I don't know how good or bad that is so leave your thoughts.

Top countries are: US, Germany, UAE, UK, Lithuania.

Hope to write more HQ articles and get to ~350 active users by the end of week 2.

Currently I have no revenue and I'm still at -$4.06.

Also AdSense rejected my applications so I'm trying to find an alternative.
