Bye bye TikTok

Companies "spying" for the sake of marketing is entirely different than what Tik Tok is being accused of doing. The US believes they have credible evidence to suggest that the Chinese government is using Tik Tok to spy, for intelligence gathering and to what end, who knows. It's not a TRUMP thing since both Democrats and Republicans launched an investigation in November:

Well said. You make a lot of good points.

I am not convinced that TikTok is some sort of secret agency used by the CCP to extract national security intelligence that will jeopardize the safety of Americans lol. Even just saying that sounds funny.

Is it possible? Of course. Is it a stretch? Definitely. What exactly would the CCP do anyways if it were true? Invade America with it's military? Start WW3? Hack America to death? I don't really understand the fear and paranoia behind Americans always pointing fingers at an outside enemy threat. They did with with Russia, Cuba, Iraq, North Korea, ISIS, etc. They just love spreading fear to their own people because I think it helps some sort of agenda they have. None of these countries that have been accused of being a threat to America have ever actually posed a threat to America. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, North Korea never invaded or bombed the US...Russia never has, ISIS is not in America despite the one off incidents here and there by troubled individuals.

When and if China actually does invade America, then I'll be the first person to admit I was wrong about this. But America always plays the same record over and over again on every country they want to make into an enemy. "They are a threat to our national security blah blah blah".

This ban is 50% good and 50% bad because most of the people spending their time in TikTok just for fun but still it has some good things. All matters how we are using it.

Fun does not produce productivity. It does not contribute a dime to the economy.

welp that was a huge waste of 3 months for me got up to 40k followers fucking fantastic

logically speaking, this is a huge fuck up for trump, right? Does this insure he loses the election and the republicans lose the election in the years to come? This gets on the bad side of all zoomers and tiktok marketers. Got elected by social media and died by social media, he should have announced this at the end of this year.

Hope Microsoft can buy it

Good, should’ve been banned awhile ago.

This is bad news. Any verifiable sources?
I don't live in the US, but was checking out their news and it's all over the place. Dang.
My TikTok was growing really big and most of the users are from the US lol

Poor Charli.

Opssss! :(

I agree and you rock!

Well, could be a good timing for facebook to come back with Lasso
Irony or not, they closed Lasso (TikTok clone) the 1st july...

I bet that facebook can make a greater offer than Microsoft (Microsoft is good with b2b app, less for b2c).
https://techcrunch.com/2020/07/01/lasso-facebook-tiktok-shut-down/

IG already have Reels and I think it's better than Lasso. They are just waiting the right moment to launch it in US also.

Never used the app myself, but from what i've seen it just looks like a weirder version of snapchat :)

someone from the USA will buy it, the chinsese already said they are open to sell the social network (or part of it) to USA controlers, so they won't get banned.
Is just a nasty move in the commercial war of Trump.

The business is valued in more than $100.000.000.000.- So yeah, very good reasons to "bann" it. Maybe Microsoft buys it and then as nothing happened it will be "unbanned"
