TikTok ban in the US?

As you may already know, after India, the US government is considering banning the Chinese social media app TikTok, over allegations China is using the platform to spy on users. TikTok says it will stop operations in Hong Kong within a few days.

I personally don't like the dancing/challenges videos, but the platform also helps many artists and musicians grow their online presence during these difficult times. Unlike any other social media apps, TikTok pushes your content to thousands of people, which helps many smaller businesses grow fast.

Is this the beginning of the end?
its interesting that India know first its spying and banned it,US is taking time

ok here's the thing about TikTok. Yes, the videos on there are mostly stupid. Actually, they are quite clever and viral but stupid. But that's why it's brilliant. You do a little dance and you get 2 million views. You show some cute animals or camera tricks, ride a skateboard, jump off a mountain, slomo beautiful scenery, whatever but people get thousands of views for almost doing nothing really. That's why it's brilliant. So while the app is sort of annoying seeing all the stupid stuff on there, the fact remains, it is one of the most viral and potent sources for traffic if that's what you want.

Totally agree!

Many experts have high expectations on TikTok in digital marketing. Most likely this is a temporary ban because world-famous brands became its customers and this app overtook the market leaders in its segment.

I'm always so torn on things like these. As an internet marketer I need social media to make a living. As a human I think social media is one of the worst things to happen to us.
Haha, so on this one. I told my kids they get to have social media when they are old enough to understand how it works and what it tries to accomplish by manipulating your brain. As a marketer, you see all these mind tricks they play :P

I mean Ig has its new reels or what was it? So conveniently launching in India and now US in early Aug? :P
I bet they have showed a lot of money into getting competitors hammered already.
It all aligns in favor of a US company (facebook).

Any bans in USA will only last till that twat in the White House is dragged out kicking and screaming.....rest assured it will be around for a long time

Senator Josh Hawley also introduced a bill to ban downloading and using TikTok on government devices because of national security concerns. In December 2019, the United States Navy as well as the U.S. Army banned TikTok from all government-issued devices

Didn't Amazon ban Tik Tok from its employees devices that have access to Amazon email and later retracted it as a "mistake"?

Tiktok and the way it works is not the problem.
For India and US , problem is China .
So developers from these countries should concentrate on building a similar app.

I don't have any5hing against dancing for example, but on TikTok you can literally do the exact same dance that 100k+ others already did, to the same song as them, yet still get millions of likes and views.

Sorry, but 50%+ of the TikTok audience are teens there to troll in the comments, or follow hot guys/girls their age that do sexual dancing. I don't see much potential in such social media app anyhow, to me it's just a good thing it's getting banned.

I hope it closes everywhere.
Could you elaborate more? The platform helped me kickstart my 2nd business. I’m also following multiple artists, and musicians. If you only know it for its cringy dances, then you’re either not on the platform, or you definitely don’t know who to follow. It is a great way to grow your social media presence. It took me a month to reach the amount of followers it took me 8 years to get on Instagram.

There is already one - Byte - by the co-founder of Vine. It got over half a million downloads in 24 hours, and passed TikTok on the App Store a few weeks ago.

This is against the freedom ! The governments can't decide what people use or not.
