Recently my website got hacked and was spammed (people call it Japanese SEO spam). There were multiple Japanese pages created with ecommerce links ony website and all got indexed on Google!

My ranking for some competing keywords went straight from top 5 to 30.

I have cleaned my website, removed the junk and submitted my website again for reindexing in Search Console.

It's been 3 days, and I know I shouldn't be expecting much in such a short span of time, but I will appreciate advising me how to get those rankings back.

Have you ever gone through the same thing?

It will take some time for Google to check your pages.
Do this:
Get Ahrefs trial;
Find all backlinks;
Contact Website owners and remove the links;
Remove remaining links from Google Disavow.

Submit the sitemap again, it will take time to see any changes

yeah it happens, cleaning and indexing domain again is the best we can do as per my knowledge. you should also leave 404 as it is and don't make them 301 so google will know that those pages don't exist anymore.

The peoblem with google indexing is its mess now a days. it was better earlier but now even after a page does not exist, google keep showing that page in search engine for years and even after removing the page from google webmaster, it appears after some time. i don't know how google indexing quality is going downward with those highly qualified engineers.

You should do one more thing, Make a list of those Japanese pages indexed in google, Install 410 plugin and add all those pages there. So google can pick it as permanently gone and will remove it from their index. It will help with the rankings too.

Happened to one of my old blogs about two weeks ago too. 30k pages created, all japanese spin content pushing to Chinese affiliate links, interlinked back to home, and between all the other pages. Very well though of.

The cause in my case was an outdated WP plugin they exploited to upload malicious php script.

I restored a backup and upgraded WP, theme, all plugins, installed more security and seems to be back to normal after 1 week.

Seems like a good idea. Will do it. Thanks!

Glad to hear your rankings are back. Let's see what happens in my case.

This is really pathetic when a keyword jumps from 5 to 30. Keep working on it and it will come back to the earlier position.

You need to wait a bit more if your site is cleaned from hack codes.

Update : That was quick, my rankings are back to page 1 (not top 5 as of now).

My website got same but website got Bitcoin spam link.

To fix this I have done
1. Remove spam code from website.
2. Find wrong urls and added in google webmaster "Removals"
3. Block wrong urls from robots
4. Added 301 redirection from wrong url to blog pages of my site
5. Backlink audit- find the wrong back link which created by bitcon spam and added in google disavow tool

Its been above 6 months, but still my ranking going down....

If any one have any suggestion, please share.

I hope it'll return to previous positions soon. Rankings are destroyed very fast but recovering them takes a lot of time.

I've seen that happening with one of my clients, and after cleaning her website the rankings took about a week to recover, getting to the first page again is a good sign, it's just a matter of time before you get back to top 5
