Google releasing a large update today

Did anyone's rankings drop even further? There seems to have been another mini update either yesterday or today and now I'm losing even more keywords :(

I just checked organic traffic has dropped even more last two days.

Damn. That's a shit ton of posts. LOL. I guess you should consider hiring a VA. How long are they?

Yeah, we have two VA's working on it, they range from 700 to 3000 words.

Every google search is littered with Pinterest pins and Facebook pages, even our brand keywords return our fb page first then our website. I don't understand how Google can rank them on the first page, Pinterest pins are locked content and require an account or sign up if this is google's idea of great content then they have lost the plot LOL.

We have thousands of links from Pinterest in GSC. I think this update is about content freshness, that is why dynamic websites like pinterest and social media are ranking high.

Yeah but my question is, since when did this happen? After the update or it happened already before?

any 1 experiencing like keyword ranking on top 1 spot and suddenly rank to #10 and goes back #1 and drop

Since the morning, I get barely any traffic so I guess it's time to go from 50-60 to 70 % loss. Cool.
What I tried the last two months:
1. Updating the content: there has been some temporary traffic gain, but the days (up to a week) after the ranking has gone up, it went back down where it previously was.
2. Changing the schema.org - no effect.
3. Optimizing the site for some speed increase - no effect.
4. Removing Adsense for a better ad program - totally unrelated, but I did see a significant financial gain, which is nice.
5. Started removing some Amazon links - went from 4 links on a 3000 words content to 2 links - no effect.
6. Wanted to disavow some links, but after I checked better, it seems that a lot of competitors have a similar set of backlinks and they weren't affected by the update, so I left them alone, for now.
What I intend to do next:
1. Take a virgin.
2. Sacrifice her/him to the Google gods.
3. Profit.

Situation is bizzarre.
I've not read someone who have recovered (me too, I was/am not able to understand what G likes).
Update content
Optimize site speed
Create quality backlinks
....
Are all BS in my opinion.
I think there is not any way/method to recover a site.
Cross our fingers and hope the next updates will recover our sites.
Play with G is a zero sum game.
Sooner or later your site will be destroyed.
Nobody is immune.
And this is ridiculous.
One day you wake up and your online business is destroyed.
Move the same scenario in an off line business, one morning you go to your work place and it does not exists anymore, when 12 hours ago you were full of customers.
A joke.

A little observation by me. I did not do any changes after the may update for a whole month. Then I added the product schema for all my products (Its an ecommerce site). After that I immediately saw some rankings coming back (from out of 100 to position 7 for example). Mostly for unimportant keywords though. So my traffic did not increase but maybe this is still worth a try if you have an ecommerce site.

It's personal. They have an ID database. The "trust" is based on their ID system.

What you meant with this? That they just selected who they are going to tank?

Or whats your guess on the "trust" system as i understand you are just saying this but there should be more into it.

A system where the trust is earned for paying for the ads?

Because you all tested different methods and there is no progress this is what could be a reason.

I still think it is about follow and no-follow links.

New Sites - not a lot of follow links and mostly unfollow links and they got boosted.

Trash sites- a mix of everything and they got boosted.

Great sites- a lot of following links from high authority, low amount of following links from mid authority sites and insane low number of no-follow links and they lost ranking.

My point is that Google is fighting against Guest posts more and more so maybe they think that Sites with a lot of follow links from high authority sites are all guest blogging.

John Mueller said that all guest's posts links should be no-followed; Paid Or Not and they are talking more and more about that.

I know this sounds crazy but I do not see other reasons for the drop in rank.

So I plan to add a few no-follow links and see what will happen.

Just look at this site and there is a lot of similar sites like this.

I doubt it, my main site has way more no-follow then do-follow links.

Rather than trying to figure this out which no one really has an answer to and google is being a little bitch about it and won't tell people what the issue is, I feel my time is better spent learning more about email marketing and maximizing the number of people that visit my site and converting them to email list subscribers and then selling to them directly by nurturing the subs.

It seems like a huge waste of time relying on google now because even if you figure it out this time for this update, on the next update they will do the opposite and you're back to square one.

Google basically has everyone by the balls at the moment.

It's about time webmasters start kicking google to the curb if they don't want to play fair.

There is absolutely nothing webmaster can do. Zero. None.

I still hope that the reason to all this is that they fucked something up by accident and the algo went nuts. They keep denying this and act like everything is like it supposed to be but they also didnt admit that they had indexing issues... how the google's upper management acted on Twitter... for weeks they said that people have issues with their sites and there are no issues with indexing whatsoever, only later to admit that they actually did.

They cannot admit the mistakes, almost never and only do this when its inevitable. Their stock depends on the shit they say and put out.. take Elon Musk for example.

I highly doubt that they come out and say that massive mistake was made. They either roll this update back or this is exactly how it's supposed to be and doing business as we knew is gone and they will push the ad system on everyone.

Webmasters can stop relying on google as a traffic source.

Build up a large email list and you will never have to worry about these algorithm updates ever again!

Also, diversify your traffic sources.

It's been nearly 2 months now and not only has google not reversed the update, they have tweaked it and made it even worse! I can't see how relying on them as a traffic source can be sustainable for a business.

In addition, they have been getting more and more ballsy with telling webmasters how to run their websites and acting like the internet police.

This will only get worse and worse each year. People have been mentioning that they are getting less and less traffic each year from google. It's only a matter of time...

I also think something similar is going on, however I think it's not got a lot to do with follow/nofollow type of links built, but more to do with giving the opportunity for normal people to exist in a web. Just look at all those parasites everywhere at the top, these are sites that literally 80 years old could do himself without any recources other than topic knowledge, phone and fb, anyway a parasites bus is driving off...

This synchronized utopia will never happen. Nobody just agrees to stop using google as a traffic source.

The fact that parasite sites are rocking SERP's is a clear indicator that they have fucked something up. I highly doubt that these goofs purposely made the decision to award spam sites, this doesn't make any sense.. something went wrong if parasites are taking over. And since it still has not been fixed tells that the issue is somewhere there.

I'm not saying don't use google. In fact, I don't think you can prevent google from giving you organic traffic unless you blocked them or asked to be deindexed.

What I am saying is to not rely on it.

Check out this article about Buzzfeed. They got wrecked from a google algorithm update and instead of continuing to try and kiss google's ass, they shifted and focused on social media as a traffic source instead.

For what it's worth, I have a 3 year old website with no backlinks that ranks for a bunch of low competition, low volume keywords and the rankings didn't change at all after this update
