I was having a question are there people in 2020 that will join a new forum?
Also, one more question,
How they grow from 0 users because they have no content at that time.

Please Note: I am not going to share anything regarding my website so don't comment below that it's a promotion thread.

This is a promotion thread. :D

You have to fake it when you first start out with a forum. Unless you are lucky and know a bunch of people who will join and create content for you.

You can pay people to post on your forum or you can create multiple accounts and do it yourself. You will not get many signups unless you have content.

You can also offer downloads that people must be a member to download. This increases member count, but this does not really bring much else to the forum because people signup, download and then leave generally, not bringing much value to the forum.

So, haw can one grow the forum from 0 in 2020. Will advertising help.

Forums are fuck ton hard man - niche out a sub reddit and put links from the forum to some posts. But if the subs look and see you have like 4 threads and fuck all else they wont even sign up.
Looked at it before and it just seems a lot of hardwork.
But good luck if you try.. :)

1. Write a bot that selects all banned BHW members
2. Scrape their threads/comments, find contact info
3. Spam the shit out of them
4. .....
5. Profit

Actually it's very easy to start a new forum. There always be some minority you can target and 'start a new movement'.

The hard part is to maintain it and keep it pushing forward.

Its the middle part that's complicated because if you don't find a way, your forum will die out soon.

At the beginning, paid post is a good way to boost your forum. However, you must make sure there is certain core value in your forum to entice more unpaid post.

Let's say that you do manage to get some users. You'll find that there's a lot of work behind the scenes of a forum. You basically need to sit with a fly swatter by the forum all day long - it's pretty annoying. That's why you see so many mods on forums, because someone's gotta take care of it. If you don't, those who will abuse your forum will take care of it for themselves.

Dont want to demotivate you but nowadays we got discord, fb groups, skype etc. Forums are so back in 2007-2011.

I remember the gaming forum back in 2009-2011. Now everyone gaming or for biz purposes, uses discord/fb groups etc.

I think the easiest way would be to build a community elsewhere and use that to populate your forum when it is launched. For example if you are a youtuber covering a certain topic or have a lot of followers on Instagram then you could build your followings in those communities and then say "hey guys I just launched a new forum where we can all connect" You will probably get a decent amount of people join over the first month. Then you also have a way of advertising the forum going forward without having to ask permission from anyone to post about it.

@madison.angella makes a very valid point. Its hard enough to manage a handful of fb pages and groups if you do it yourself so managing a forum would be a nightmare, plus depending on the type of personality you have it could end up consuming you and taking all your time to run a forum. If you wanted it to grow to any sort of a decent size then you would need help from others.

Hire a VA to create signups + post content ;)

You could hire a bunch of people to do that but when their work is done it is a ghost town again. Getting people to consistently write content and posts would take a lot of resources and what is the point if it is all a facade anyway. Real members are what matter. In the early stages I'm sure there will be a lot of people who are quite prolific in sharing info. Again if you can launch it with enough people who already follow you I imagine it could be done. Plus with all the resources at peoples disposal these days would it not be easier than 10 years ago?

The forum has to be useful first of all, that is a main thing for any shit to be successful (In my opinion) So if you plan to advertise somewhere on your forum, focus first on small Facebook groups related to your niche, then From this, share useful things in your forum in order to attract users through indexing in Google (Although this will be more difficult) and try to incentivize your active users to participate, comment and above all contribute things to the forum. So that anyone who enters it sees that it has value, and stays to learn and take advantage of all its benefits.

Good luck partner!

True, I agree with you mate. I think Dave Hankkens (a youtuber) is quite successful with this strategy. What I was trying to say is that it's always better when people arrive at your forum, there are already a good number of content and "people" in the forum and "interactions" are already happening. Just think of it as a boost or perhaps a jumpstart on the forum. I think it would encourage new comers to participate better rather than arriving at an empty forum with the creator expecting them to fill it up with content - even if they are already an avid follower, it doesn't necessarily follow that they will be spending time creating contents or topics especially if the house is empty.

I think in this day and age you have to appeal to very core needs and strong desires of users, you have to do it well, and you can't do it in a wishy washy way.

What I mean is this. People might come to a forum because you have some unique and interesting posts there. But really that's super wishy washy.. people can get information for free at their fingertips on any topic day and night.. easy. Why use your forum when they can use other places.

What they can't get as easily might be a) ways to tangibly make money, and b) people to talk to who could be (i) practically useful to talk to or (ii) just fun to be sociable with.

You need to either provide clear, easy to understand, and easy to execute ways of generating money, that can only be achieved using your community, or you need to have people there already that are very active and that people want to be sociable with.

Both of these things are rare commodities, most other reasons to use a community have only minor pulling power.

Critical mass is the key thing though. It takes money to make money, and it takes people to get people. If you can't fund the initial people you need, don't expect anyone else to want to waste their time there either.

And I think something that is often overlooked is your communications with members. Having a strategy for autonomously or semi-autonomously contacting members regularly keeps the community in their mind.

There's so much going on that it's easy to forget about a single website if you're not reminded. By creating automatic notifications, newsletters and reminders each day or each week, it keeps members feeling connected. If you don't do this it's just too easy for massive numbers of members to "drop off" and forget.

I've seen many people and even have experienced myself back in 2018 when I tried my best to start and successfully run a forum.
What I'd say is you obviously can grow your own forum, have your own community but you do need to have a pretty good budget, self-confidence, and at last, but not the least, patience. You can't expect any forum to grow within a month, it could maybe take you years to have a stable activity on your forum.

I was thinking of starting a forum myself. Can anyone recommend good software for a forum? Some sort of template for a forum?
