Obligatory - I quit my corporate job thread.

I did it. Sent my resignation email. 30th June will be my last day.

This was the best job i could get in my country. I am (was?) a Software Engineer in one of biggest middleware software giant with 500+ engineers. They have great salary, a gym, pool table, food, even a snooze room (if you feel like shit and want to take a nap). Not easy to get into, I had to pass 7 interviews even with a first class degree.

Why did I quit?
Well, I guess I was never a corporate kinda guy. Promotions doesn't motivate me. Once the initial dopamine boost is over, it gets quite boring. I don't see myself working there in future. I wanna do something on my own. And want to have the freedom to travel.

I wanted to do this a long time ago, I remember having a chat with @BassTrackerBoats on skype six months or so ago about wanting to quit. I didn't have lot of savings back then. Now I I do to survive for a while without a paycheck.

This probably is the stupidest thing i did, or it is gonna be the best decision i made in life. I really don't know how shit is gonna turn out. Wish me luck.

Mate well done. The job that you quit sounds amazing; but you must have some great skills yourself to have been in that job in the first place.

Also, you know why they have all that crazy stuff like pool tables, gym etc? Because whatever they’re paying you they’re getting back 10-fold or more.

So hopefully now you’ll be on the road to earning much more and, eventually, working less - better work life balance etc.

Movijg away from employment to my own biz was the best thing I ever done so hopefully it’s the same for you.

This was a big decision, and it is very demotivating when people around tell you "You are making a mistake", "What are you gonna do?", "Someone else will die to get this job, and you are quitting for no reason", "Stay for a while and see" etc etc

I am glad I posted this thread and seeing you guys made that choice and made it.

Trust me mate. Its the biggest barrier because we (Well, at least I am speaking from my experience in the UK) are all pretty much brought up with the mindset that you need a job, you need a career, you need security etc. Society just drills that into us from the get go. I spent years thinking that it was too scary to leave a secure job, especially once I had a family to support.

I must admit that I only made the move because I was forced to do so through circumstances, but theres pure gold behind that barrier. Don't get me wrong it might be hard getting back even to where you were/are now because if you are like me you might be starting again from the bottom.

But the big differences working for yourself compared to working for someone else are -

• Everything that you do goes 100% towards yourself, your business and your future.
• Those things in employment called "opportunities to move up the ladder, pay rises and so on", that is available all day, every day, forver, when you are working for yourself.
• As I mentioned previously, when you earn money, you are earning the 10x or 100x that your employer normally earns before they pay you 10% or 1%.
• You can work whenever you want. You can work 10x as hard when you want, knowing that its productive and self-benefiting and then you can take time off with your family whenever you want.

Even now I think its crazy when I can earn in a day what I would have earned in a week when I was employed, and then I would have worked 5x as hard for the pleasure.

So yea, you are super brave to make this step but you'll surely be rewarded for it.

Now is your time to shine my man. You got endless opportunities with your programming knowledge but I am sure you will rock it in the future.

It is exactly the same here. And one of the reason I took this desicion right now is that i don't have that much responsibitilty. It would have been very tough when you have a family to support to. [/QUOTE]

That's exactly right. It is really hard to find the motivation when you work for some corporate.

I have lot of plans and some are already in kinda motion. But this is not the thread for it to discuss. I'll keep you guys updated

as for me, sometimes i regret that i quit my job in 2011 but only mostly because besides 3k/m$ salary (never regreted that i lost these money) there were very nice colleagues, i and felt myself socialized AF.
