Build a SaaS every 42days

Hey BHW,

How's everyone doing, hope you guys are doing great during this pandemic.

Here's a little story to make this intro thread a bit longer & interesting

Since were talking about the pandemic, I'll be WFH for coming months. I'm so fucking bored since all I do right now is working(programming & systems), watch movies and playing games. Lately I changed my routine and started reading a book about self-help. It's Ultralearning by Young, Scott which talks about what we can do when we're focusing on tasks or plan at hand. Highly recommended this book.

One of the story inside the book is about the creator of Stardew Valley. If you don't know that game, you're missing one of the best games out there in my opinion. The story made me realize that we can do anything we really want in life. Pretty much the possibilities are endless if we will just focus and not get distracted on the things around us. I mean EVERYTHING.

With what's happening right now, everything is uncertain that's why I want to have additional sources of income instead of relying on jobs that might not be there tomorrow. So the plan is just to focus on what I do best and build around that. Be Ultrafocus.

Now why 42 days or 6 weeks? I decided it to be this long because I always get attached to the projects I build, I want everything to be perfect. But not this time, here's a tip for you my friend,

Now for my first SaaS, I want to build a system where you can get cheap reports from Ahrefs & Semrush. You might ask why you want to build this?! There are already services offered in our marketplace. Well to be honest I don't care if I earn from these projects or not, if these are clones of other SaaS. What's important to me is that I'm learning, creating/recreating something that will improve my knowledge and skills. Another tip my friend.

I'll be just rolling small apps for the meantime until one of them gains enough costumers. Well at the moment it will be just responsive webapps. No plans with desktop and mobile apps.

I do not want to discourage you or anything. but both are flawed.

I have learned it the hard way.

Going by what you said let us say you "launch" your project for your own personal use or for the public. and it is so complicated or simple or whatever! and for xyz reason, even you dont want to use it. for whatever reason. or dont have time or 100 other reasons.

I am saying the above on my own experience where I am suffering from the same. I paid for a project which even I do not use because of xyz. Let us leave it at that. TL;TR

and on the flip side, my coder who built it for me. and moved on to the next and the next.

point being: neither of us now use it, it is not perfect but useable. and yet unusable at the same time because it is not perfect. for xyz reasons.

there has to be a balance.

he learnt for sure and moved on to another project.

did he earn extra $$ - no,
did I earn extra $$ - no
did either of use it - no
did he tout it as a - see I built this - no

and more nos. and then some more reasons not to use it.

the bottom line: so now that he learned from it and what did he get?

a send-off. -- ie F*** off.

there has to be a thought out process and objective.

what is your objective(s)?

objective: learn?
objective: earn money?
objective: help the global causees? blah blah blah
objective: a sweet f**king send-off?
objective: blah blah blah

I know for sure, I can build a SaaS in 42 days or 42 years. it depends on what I am trying to do. time is relative.

Well if you're asking professionally, I have been fortunate to work on startups here in Australia from fintech to supermarket. However, outside of work I do mostly freelance web development.

Thanks for you're concern over this journey. Totally respect what you're saying buddy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you hire people to build your projects? If that's the case then my journey and plans are totally different. Because the main objective is learning then earning, that's it. Nothing to complicate here, I already have a decent job and believe me I have tons of time at the moment due to this covid-19 thing.

I don't know what happened with projects but for me no matter what happens here, it'll be beneficial for me both personally and professionally. Even if these saas fails, it can be a great portfolio of projects for a software developer at the same time improve my technical skills so you really can't say everything is a waste.

Update:
-- Bought the domain sempkg.com => Search Engine Marketing Packages
-- Bought trial accounts for both semrush & ahrefs to test the functionality of the system (will buy a subscription accounts before launch or maybe the API's if all went well)
-- Finished creating the backend of the system using serverless architecture (AWS)
-- I'll be working on this week the frontend of the website

That's it for at the moment guys, pretty much what I did coding the whole time.
