Google releasing a large update today

116% drop in organic search traffic. I just lost like 50+ kw from yesterday and lost a good 20+ kw from the top 3 position. WTF!

According to semrush every single one of my competitors also got hit hard too.

Well, it's been almost a month (May 4th) that G released this update.
I changed all my important sites inner pages content, got it better. (> 2000 words).

Got it resting for 2 weeks, no updates, no improvements, etc.

And everytime i check the rankings are just "nonsense", I'd bet 1000 they'll bring back the previous google or a lot of people will go bing ,duck duck go, etc..

THEY GOTTA BRING IT BACK. OR I GO CALI.

All my sites finally tanked.
From 1200 per day to 90.

How do i keep the investment on my end of links, content, etc... if I'm so uncertain about the rankings...
I'm seriously going to wait until the search engine settles down, to see if I'll continue investing as I've been doing.

We're too many people thinking that they've fu@#$ their search engine so they gotta do something about it.

Till then I'll be just waiting... and doing content and that's it. no more big investment.

Are your websites connected or totally independent? Do they target the same niche or each site targets different niche?

Anyone considers moving the content from the website that was hit by this update to a new or high quality (relevant to your niche) expired domain?
I don't think 301 will work because all the bad signals from the update will be passed on.
What do you think?

I wouldn’t. Unless you are sure you have made mistakes, otherwise do not touch anything if it is not to improve it.
Google has known how the 301 is used for a very long time ... must stop taking them for idiots. Some people use it for other situations successfully, but in your case if there is a penalty, it will pass.
Why not make a second site if you are afraid of never recovering?

Just improve, if you were doing everything right. just improve.

This is my case:

5 sites, all hand coded, no Wordpress. extremely fast (using fastcgi cache, Nginx + cloudflare) , no themes, beautiful web designs, 1500 words as the minimum content for all pages.
All 5 sites in the same niche. all 5 dropped. (at least 30-40% traffic down.)
I believe my sites are the BEST in the niche by a HUGE difference.

All I'm doing now, is waiting. this is not a "penalty" I haven't receive a penalty from google. If that was the case, that I receive a penalty for all my sites, then yes, start from 0, but because I haven't receive a penalty
why should I? i believe google just fu@# their search.

Makes no sense for me to change anything, just maybe improve some content as I've been doing.

My initial thoughts about the google update were: "Okay, might be because I haven't change the content of my homepage, and other important inner pages for more than 5 months,...so i might just change my homepage content so google reads something that's "REFRESHED.".
I did that on all 5 pages. and NO ranking improvements.

Google just needs to get their sh@#$@ back. period.

#hope.

There's no point to create a new site, or 301, etc...

Did anyone manage to return any lost featured snippet positions? It seems to me Google gives them now only to strongest domains. Got small ranking boost 2 days ago from #8-11 to #3-4 but still can't get to #1. Site still losing KWs every day.

Guys, I'm not god, I don't know everything, however, I have been in the game for 15 to 20 years, so I have experience in the field.
You can play with Google but by experience when things go wrong you only have two solutions:

1) You drop everything and you start all over again and you need to change your IP and server.
2) You accept your error and you follow Google's guidelines to get your site back on track.

All the other solutions will make you lose time in the end, maybe you will have a reprieve but it will fall back on you soon after.
However if you think you have done nothing wrong, if there is no manual action either (to find out you must already have a webmaster tool ...) I think you have to keep working as usual.

In this regard not having a webmaster tool is really very suspect, all honest webmaster use it I imagine.

Anyway the dance is not over, that's why you absolutely must not stop doing what you usually do.

another evidence how google mess up this update,

was too lazy to write canva.com in the browser, just write canva and enter, and this is the google search result :

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About this may update :

- My web organic traffic down 30-40%, yet my image search traffic is steady.
- Previously, the total organic traffic to my site is around 50:50 (50% web search, 50% image search).
- It seems that my website search ranking is impact by this update, but doesn't impact the image search ranking.
- what i did to cover the lost traffic is producing and publish a lot of new images, and it worked well since my total traffic almost recovered but now the organic traffic ratio is around 30:70 (30% web, 70% images).

They gave you that translation based on your IP. If they didn't have a version that matches your IP location they gave you something that's close to you hoping and that you might understand. It's possible that language ref was part of the update as a lot of people were complaining about that. If you look closer you can see that the links below the main URL are in English. I don't think that an update to language ref would cause so many people to lose 70, 80, or 90% of their traffic. There must be more to it.

I'm from indonesia and there is a indonesian version of canva available, yet they shown me (i finally find out) it's a senegal canva. I'm not using any kind of proxy, vpn or anything, as the bottom of the SERP show my current exact location.

I'm agree that this language update not the main cause why many people losing traffic, but it shown that this google update is a mess. For this simple thing, they can't even give the correct version of the website even though they know where am i and what language i used. I'm not expecting they give me indonesian version of canva, an english one is ok for me. But Senegal?

Hi there,

my site is going down and down...today I looked the Link report in webmaster tools and saw more than 1.5k spam backlinks form votefrankharris and liakmartaiplac domains.

I updated today the disavow file and I'm wondering if this can be the problem.

Do any of you have the same problem?

Already disavow it after may update, but nothing changed. The website is already gone so i think google doesn't count those backlink anymore.
