I notice some of my competitor link to my site why?
what reason behind this? does any SEO tactics intent?

They want to give signal that those sites are relevant to your site and vice versa.

If some one looking for keywords which you are ranking well already. If they give link to your site they have the chance boosting up their ranking.

Now a days It is used as one of the competitor strategies to manipulate google search.

It is like win win theory

You don't need to worry unless those links are from shitty site.

Speaking of this I've wondered if it's common or possible for competitor's to spam shitty links to competing domains? Ive never really heard about it talked about and I get why it would be frowned upon even here on BHW but I find it interesting because youd be running the risk of making their site more prominent by giving it juice in hopes that the spam geta picked up by the algorithm or a manual review.

Yeah those spam links used as negative SEO way back time. Now a days Google algorithm is smart Enough to understand those kind negative SEO. Apart from You can manually disavow those kind of links if you think weird stuff.

Yes all link are niche relevant
is this new SEO strategy or old one

I have seen pro bloggers do this, since I don’t know your niche I don’t know but I believe he considers your site as an authority site

They trying rank same niche
I notice this in since from January my top 6 competitor link to my site
anyway happy to see this happen :):)

True. And the tool works. I've recovered sites by disavowing links.
quick question, if your site gets hit with an algorithm penalty do you get notified? Or do you just have to kinda guess that's why your ranking fell? Or better yet is there a way to see if a competitor got hit with a penalty other than just observing their rankings tank?

No formal notification of algo penalties.

I check competitors on semrush a week later to see if same niche got hit. For the past several updates all competitors got hit with me, so it's not something I messed up.

This also tells us that Google does niche updates. YMYL and shit like that.

They say it's for the good of mankind.

I say they tweak their algorithm to whatever ad niche they need to sell more of.

Their current SERPs are a clusterfuck. Other search engines might take over soon.

That's so shit... I hate the preference to their own products and ads. That coupled with their shitty spam at the top of the results makes it even worse. I feel like Google is too far ahead of everone else to lose the market share of searches though. I'd love if a dark horse came out on the tails of some controversial news about Google but the algorithm thing just seems like it would be damn near impossible to start from scratch. Duckduckgo I thought had some hope their for a while with their anti-tracking stance but it never really gained the traction it needed to take any substantial traffic away from Google's monopoly. Perhaps Bing is our only hope, lol.

Google's gonna end up broken into several companies.

The ad + affiliate partnerships conflict with organic SERPs has been a problem for more than a decade.

Google is an affiliate too and they don't label their results as such.
