Google releasing a large update today

It's not a casino, it's a common niche.
With this update, new sites (Less than a year and many spam links) are ranked first and second.

confirming this. In my niches too.
On first spots only new sites created 1-3 months old.
And my which is 3 years old now (was ranked on 1st page until this update) is moved to page 6.

this is the most ridiculous update ever!

I believe we'll be back in a few weeks.
Cheer up.

Same thing here. 2 months old website with no backlinks or only spammy ones is ranking #1 for many medium-hard keywords, while my 1.5 years old website with better content is either not ranking or moved to position 50-80. Its been 2 weeks already and nothing has changed.

And after two weeks core update completed. "The May 2020 Core Update rollout is complete."

The update has now been finished and this is confirmed by Google.

I got my rankings back for 1 day and they are gone again. Since the update is now completed and the junk sites are still rocking the SERPs then im pretty sure that this is the dead end.

The thing that pisses me out the most is that Google employees on Twitter keep acting like there are no errors at all. That these spammed to death, spun content sites with 3 pages and 7 backlinks should be on top.

Motherfuckers.

Maybe we should give it another week.

Maybe we should give it another week.

What would be your course of action if you were not to give it another week? And if you do give it another week and nothing's changed (which is 99.99% certain), what action will you take then?

If nothing changes in a weeks time I’m going to continue building backlinks but more aggressively then before and i don’t think these positions are permanent

WTF complete? These fuckers from google fucked up the serps and are giving queries that aren't even related to the search intent.
I'm still down 50%+ and losing more keywords on a daily basis. POS google!

update complete and my featured snippet has gone 90% -_-'
waiting for another week and then take action or just revamp now?

Boyz - lets take some action.

  • Propper About Page incl propper Author Desc (EAT)
  • Propper Privacy Policy try not to mess around with google (EAT)
  • Remove all useless content out of sitemap, dont index everything
    • You need to figure out whether your tags, categories, taxonomies etc bring any value
Then the content - there is some content out there which does not bring any value (thin, poorly written, typos etc etc)
  • Bring the speed up - GPS, FCP, FID, TTI etc get out of the red zone to orange or even green
  • Check your GSC for errors, especially Mobile Experience
  • Create a proper internal linking profile (just dont nofollow everything - which I did)
  • Don't spam with ads - the site has to be easily accessible and not distracted by ads (I did it also :/ have more revenue with less ads now)
  • Remove all the pop-ups which do interfere with user actions (again especially on mobile)
  • Avoid content which pushes the content back and forth (up and down) while browsing
  • Content is king - but the word count isn't always - check your competitors and sometimes is it better to split to more than just 1 post
  • EDIT: Try to write for the user not for google! Bring up the solution quite early in the game and elaborate then
  • EDIT: Looks like EMD is still king

Thats from my side - may the force be with you!

If nothing changes then just burn the site with hard on link building. If it recovers without a penalty, fine. If not, it was doomed anyways.

Waao you are getting losts of traffic. great if you dont mind can you tell which off-page techniques do you using?

I'm using expired domains

and then building links by comment and forums posts

mostly exact anchor texts, but I'm using pages keywords for homepage anchor text

is there a new #1 site in your niche? if so, what are its characteristics?

From what I've seen some of the big players lost ranking, some have gained, didn't see anything new that would stand out. What's interesting is the snippets that are showing up in SERP and the position of a keyword(s) in a sentence. (BRET ?) BTY, none of my top ranking posts (I still have some) have a sentence that begins with a keyword. I have a few posts that have been ranking top 5 for the past few years and none of them have been affected by Google updates. The search volume is about 5 and 10k a month and they have zero links except for those accidental generated by scrapers. So, I'm thinking to structure the other posts that lost traffic and ranking the same way as the posts that have not been affected, meaning overall keyword density and keyword position in a sentence.

Yepp, working on it.

i have 2 domain starting with full blackhat method, let's see if i can get it to the page 1 or not lol.

Gonna experiment with some old school BH too. Seems like some old methods may be back in play.

The core update has ended, and our traffic and ranking have not recovered. How should I do? Bad May
