I can't elaborate too much as I'd be giving away a lot of my methods. However I will say I look at a lot of metrics to determine competition as well as local competition (the actual businesses) and also many metrics etc. To determine if there's actually local demand.

I've been playing around with some new techniques and been ramping up site production and this week I've published 5 sites and 3 are on the first page already. Brand new domains.

Some proof of rankings from 5 sites I made last week. Sites built for clients also doing well. These are in decently populated cities as well not small places with just 5,000 people. Population ranges from 34,000-96,000 people. These are pretty popular services with some expensive jobs.
