All the previous Google Updates boosted all of my pages. But this update hit me pretty hard, I'm almost down by 50%. Now there are competitors with very thin content, stuffed with affiliate links and with "2017" in the meta title ranking in featured snippets. Why would Google rank a cheap affiliate-fake-test-website which wasn't updated since 2017. I don't get this

What is the characteristic of the sites that are sitting in the top position for the keywords related to this site?
This update is strange is time. Hope it is not totally settled yet.
For one of my main keywords of a site, the one which sits at the first position suddenly becomes a site in another country for a local search in my country. Although we use the same language as in that foreign country, the domain of that foreign site is a local domain in that foreign country. It is so insane for that site to sit on the first position.

Still perplexed by the fact that average position is going up whereas impressions and clicks are going down after the update.
Anybody care to explain?

Anyone noticed that to actually search for something specific, google no longer returns the right results. I'm saying that now generally, there search engine is less helpfull in returning the right results.
It may return the right results for perhaps 3 or 4 results, but then it goes way off the subject even before you get to page 2.
If you're searching for something technical I actually have to use another search engine now.

It just gives you Google books in the search results now lmao. Oh, and Pinterest of course, can't forget that one.

somehow i doubt google gives an F to what you and me think!! as long as media uses the word "google it" in their shows and movies, google will continue to operate this way. Once they say "bing it", we might see some changes. and I doubt we will ever see this, since bing it is close to bang it and it does not sit well with the audience, in particular the bible belt locations.

This happens because Google is giving search visibility and more traffic to strong domains and brands. They have many ways to identify the best content but still they will always prefer authority domains which is #1 factor to rank and we all know how you get that. Thousands of quality links and many years of work on your brand. Some comments here claim they see trash sites above them, maybe for some keywords but I doubt thats the case for many niches.

For those saying bounce rates matter this makes no sense.
My site has zero traffic. I am ranking page 4 and page 5. After the update long tail keywords dropped to page 10 while the rest dropped by only a page.
The fact is this is completely random and Google definitely fucked it’s quality up so let’s just hope they reverse it as quickly as possible.

Most likely because you need to segment your traffic on search apperance, would assume you lost your traffic from rich snippets
