Hey all, I spent some time building an Amazon Affiliate site and selling it on Flippa for $2500. In total I made more than $4000 in a couple months.
Amazon cut their affiliate commission drastically but this method I used still works for any affiliate network.

So I started this website from scratch around November of last year. That's when I actually started writing real good content.
The strategy is to write single product / single brand reviews. When you first create your website, you have no clout and Google doesn't trust you (and they shouldn't). So you have to slowly build your authority.
The truth that no one wants to tell you is that you don't need to buy backlinks, content, not even a SEO tool. I've experimented with all the above but what really moved the needle was quality content.
Everyone has their own niches and products and they never reveal it to you. I will because I sold the website and do not see myself competing in that space ever again.
My niche was Health and Beauty and I mainly targeted massage chairs.
Massage chairs are nice because they are huge (people generally will not return big items) and it's really pricey ($1,000 to $10,000) which means you can a big commission. Every time I sold a chair I was getting more than $100+ commission (before Amazon reduced the commission).
Before I write any content, all I do is check that the keyword has really low volume. So I'll target a keyword like "Kahuna SM-7300 review". By the way, Kahuna is a massage chair brand, and SM-7300 is a specific model...
It brought back just 9,000 results. You can EASILY rank for this keyword. And the best part is that it's buyer intensive. Meaning... people that are most likely to buy it will type in these types of keywords.
That's another key part of this business. If you don't target buyer intensive keywords, you are likely wasting time, at least in the beginning.
Oh another thing I forgot to mention. You dont need to buy the item to review them. Can you imagine what your competitors are doing? Do you think they are buying a $3,000 product and reviewing them? No. No one is doing that. It's obviously because every one of my competitors have stock photos.
Just use Amazon reviews and Youtube to get a good understanding of what the product does. I've even called salesman who sell these products to see what features they mention to sell the product.
Anyways, after writing 15 - 20 reviews, I started ranking on the 1st page of almost every keyword I competed. I got my first sale not even 1 month after I started. After 2 months of writing, I just stopped and let it sit. 6 months after, I hit an all-time high of $500 in a month and I didn't do anything. Google was starting to recognize the quality of my content and was ranking a lot of keywords. I eventually even ranked for crazy competitive keywords like "best massage chairs"
I sold it on Flippa because I have multiple projects and Amazon cut their rates. If I hadn't and let it sit I probably would of made close to $1000 / month and could sell it for $20k - $25k.
