[Guide] How to use Expired Domains effectively

I checked a domain in Moz only the free account and it didn't give a score
but has this
1-30%
60.5%
31-60%
20.0%
61-100%
19.5%

Is this Ok?

It is impossible to say without looking at the domain. If the domain has really good backlinks from authority domains and it is 100% clean, it might be ok. It looks spammy from those stats, and I would be amazed if it was clean.

Thanks for this wonderful guide. Is there any other way to earn money using expired domains?

What ways do you think you can earn from any domain? An expired domain is simply a domain. All methods are open to you.

A great guide on using Expired domains. This is really helpful. Thanks alot!!

Your welcome, I am glad it has helped you.

Hi Fasttrak, first thank you very much for this detailed guide!

Let's say I resuscitate the website "letsrock.com" (fictitious example) that used to be a music band's website. I waited a few weeks, now it's ranking again in Google for its previous KWs.

Now, I want to make a new website on the domain "letsrock.com", but I want to turn it into a niche site about banking / recommending credit cards.

Obviously, the 2 sites are on 2 different topics. So what do I do ?
  • Do I delete all old articles that are not related to my new niche and make 301 redicrections towards the home page? (and start building the new site from there)
  • Do I first rank with a few articles about my new niche while still keeping the old unrelated articles (and then after a while I delete them?)
Thanks!

Going from rock to finance, I would 301 everything to the homepage unless you can create pages about finance which have a music twist.

Great guide to reindex and use an expired domain, but do you know where can i find good expired domains ?

There are plenty of guides on BHW, your best bet is to follow some of them.

OK thanks :) But then do I still restore the old website, wait for it to rank on its old keywords and only then 301 all pages to the home page (and do I delete them since they're unrelated to the new topic)?

OR do I buy the expired domain and do a 301 to the homepage right away, without restoring it and waiting for it to rank on old KWs?

Thank you

Hi brother,
I thank you for the guides you publish enriching blackhatworld.
I wanted to ask you for advice. I explain to you. I would like to make my PBN but I don't know which expired domains to buy. My business is focused in Italy and therefore I would like to create an Italian PBN (with Italian backlinks and Italian content). but it is very difficult to find good expired Italian niche domains. Is it worth pursuing with this goal or could I also do it in English?
Do you think there is much difference in creating an Italian PBN or an English PBN?
I wait your feedback

Using English or other language/nationality domains for a PBN is fine, they work just as well. I have domains from all over Europe and South America which I have repurposed, and they work nicely for me. You could also use Italian content on them. I use English content on my domains for my English money sites without any issues.

There was a case study released on BHW by @tiiberius in the last couple of weeks, which showed how effective they can be. Might be worth checking out.

Ok thanks, I guess once I eventually get the domain I'll build it to how it was then wait and see. It's in google index but just to a registrar holding page

My answer was based on you saying that you had previously restored content and it was ranking again.

I would restore, wait for it to rank, then 301 page redirect where possible and 404 redirect the rest.

Honestly, if there are no 301 page redirects that I can do, the niche is not even remotely close to the niche I want for my money site and the backlinks are likely not going to do any good anyway. So I would rethink the niche for the money site or move on to the next target.

Great job! Thanks

Thank you.

I always have less hassle and lose the least amount of money by building out first and waiting to find out if the domain is any good or not, before spending $'s on new content and link building.

After a small chat we had, we decided to post my question here, so everyone can benefit from it.
https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/backlink-discrepancy-in-revived-site.1228383/

So, I revived an expired domain.
I resurrected the old site from web archive and everything went smoothly.
Bing webmaster tools says around 550 inbound links
google 179 external links
and ahrefs around 620 backlings.

What is going on? Why there is such a big discrepancy in numbers.
So, assuming i have made mistakes rebuilding the site correctly(http vs https, etc)
why bing shows so many links and google does not?
Shouldn't GSC give me error reports for those links that end up nowhere?
Does grc need more time to crawl a site. Site is almost a week old. I`ve got grc link reports,
3 days or so after i uploaded the sitemaps.

Thanks. I am happy to answer questions in the post, it keeps my inbox uncluttered and helps others who may have the same question.

Bing, Google and Ahrefs all have a different link database to each other, and they all report links differently. So you would expect to see different totals reported in each tool, that is normal. Same if you checked your domain with Moz or Semrush or any other SEO tool that has a backlink database.

Ahrefs has the 2nd biggest backlink database behind Google, so that is a good indicator of how the domain is doing since you rebuilt it. But the true acid test is if you are starting to rank for any of the old content?

Also, it should be noted that Google does not show you all of the links which it has credited to your domain, it shows a sample. So it will always be different to what Ahrefs or any other tool shows.

For me, I use the fact that links are appearing in GWC and that the old content is starting to rank again, as indicators that the expired domain is gaining trust with Google and ready for me to repurpose in to a money site or something else.

Thanks

Worth having a go, apart from the cost of buying and hosting the domain, the rest is free. Not a huge amount to lose!

If all the links go to the homepage, just make a basic music site, few pages to round it out. Then let it sit for a week or two, let Google index it naturally, a few weeks later add it to GWC to check for penalties etc. If the site has any authority it should rank some of the easy KW's in the content you have created, then build your money site and off you go.

Do I need to be renewing the domain? And please what is GWC? Thanks again!

How have your expired domains performed with the May Google core update? Some people in FB groups mentioned this update impacted their expired domains.

Going to try to break the questions up so they are easy to read.

>>But now for me, I have over 5400 pages having the backlinks,so should I restore all of the contents the same as before

The answer is, it depends. If the 5400 pages all have quality backlinks, yes, I would restore all old pages. If most of the quality links are to a lesser number of pages, I would restore those pages and 404 the rest to the domain root. It really depends on the quality of the links pointing to specific pages.

>>so should I restore all of the contents the same as before, and especially for the URL & Title which also should be 100% same or not.

Personally I prefer to use the old content. For a site this size and assuming it has quality links to old ALL pages, I would use one of the methods I mentioned in earlier replies to quickly and cheaply restore the entire site. With smaller sites, I like to copyscape the content to make sure it is unique. If it is not, I will find some other expired content on the same subject and just use that instead.

>>The last is REPURPOSE, after the previous URL and content which are good on index, now I should repurpose my new site with the keywords which I want to rank,so I should do like this or not:

Covered this previously. Take a look at some of my earlier replies in this thread, as the answers are there.

>>1. Doing the recover, I should use rebot.txt to ban google crawl, after recovering the 5000 pages then allow the spider permit and submit the domain to Google website console?

Not sure where you got this from. I build the site out, let it sit for a while, then submit to GWC. I never ban google from crawling the site. Maybe you are getting confused with 301 redirecting pages in .htaccess? I do that.

Tks for the answer, very impressed.

Now has only three questions confused, so on most of the case, the homepage site has the largest quantity of backlinks, so for the rebuilding work of homepage,I should keep the same as before, or I should rebuild from what my money site looks like, which means just follow my design.

And the second question is about the site layout, design, I already read all of your message on this thread, for your method, simply split into two stages, one is rebuild, one is creat new content after the wait. So for the rebuild stage, the layout could follow my new design which is different from before, but the title, meta-description,page content, page content image, page content outbound link & interior link.

OR, I should keep the layout, design structure which is the 100% same as before, then only could change the design on the repurpose stage.

Amazing bro

Thanks

Mine have all been fine, in fact they have done nicely from this update so far.

Tks for the answer, very impressed.

Please see answers below.

I should keep the same as before, or I should rebuild from what my money site looks like, which means just follow my design.

I either keep the design the same (as long as it does not break too many modern design rules), I build it out on my new design (if the niche is a fit), or a put the content on a basic, simple WP theme. Wait for it to age and then convert to my new money site.

I should keep the layout, design structure which is the 100% same as before, then only could change the design on the repurpose stage.

My answer above partly answers this. It very much depends on the site you have found and if it is a direct niche fit to your money site. If it is a direct fit, I use the new design and simply add the content. If it is not, I build it out as described above, wait for it to age and then convert to the new money site design.

You said you had 3 questions, but I only spotted 2, did I miss one?

Hi admin, I want to ask, how do I do the right backlink for black SEO?
#amanda sari 19 old thnks

@fasttrak What if an expired domain is not indexed anymore or only the homepage is indexed? Do recreating the old pages help?

Also, when you reindex the old backlinks in indexers - do you reindex them all at the same time or slowly?
