[Guide] How to use Expired Domains effectively

Hi admin, I want to ask, how do I do the right backlink for black SEO?

Hi Amanda, you might want to ask this in a new post (i.e. create a post) to get an answer. Or simply searching the forum will give you answers, as this question is asked most days.

Hope that helps and best of luck in your IM journey.

@fasttrak What if an expired domain is not indexed anymore or only the homepage is indexed? Do recreating the old pages help?

99% of the domains I find/use are NOT indexed at all. I follow this process to massage them back to life and get Google to remember their previous authority. So not having them indexed is just fine for me.

Great post, thanks. Couple questions.
1. When you 301, do you also do a permanent change of address in GWC? I assume no, but wanted to clarity.
2. How often would say it is safe to do this? I found a handful of websites that have some decent backlink profiles and seem clean. I would like to do this with all but know I will need to spread them out, well assume. Is 1 a month too much?

My answer above partly answers this. It very much depends on the site you have found and if it is a direct niche fit to your money site. If it is a direct fit, I use the new design and simply add the content. If it is not, I build it out as described above, wait for it to age and then convert to the new money site design.

You said you had 3 questions, but I only spotted 2, did I miss one?

The third question is about the HOMEPAGE rebuild, As most of case like the homepage got the most of backlinks, but homepage does not include any topic only generally describe something,so right now what should I do for this work if the expired domain is really fit my niche.

Should I also keep the same title, same meta describe, same content? Or I could use the new design as my money site looks like, because from your above answer showing that if the expired domain fits my Niche, can do the direct work.

Kindly await your reply

I used this on my .htaccess...

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.olddomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/page/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

But this code redirects to new domain but throws a posing 404 page not found error, how can I achieve perfection on a permanent redirect
@fasttrak

No, I had done 301 redirect of expired domain to money site and it helped my money site with backlinks credited to my search console

So basically, If I buy an expired domains with quality back links and high DA from someone, I have to get it through this steps to have the backlinks and DA effective ?

If you mean you are planning to 301 one domain to another, be careful, it can cause penalties as well as give you a boost. All it takes is for a competitor to report you and you can lose it all. I have seen this multiple times. Just a heads up.

1. No, I would just either do it via .htaccess or your domain registrar.
2. If you mean that you plan to 301 several domains to your money site, please read my opening paragraph above. It is likely to not end well.

I usually recreate the site exactly as it was, including homepage, once links are reappearing in GWC and KWs are starting to rank, I would completely change the design to my money site, and carry on with the process.

Hi, very nice guide! Im starting with expired domains, and facing situation :

I recreate all pages that had links pointing to them and are in archive.org. But there is few links ( not very quality ones, but when i bought that domain, i want take maximum from that ). Some are pointing to images, and some are not in archive.org, so i cant recreate them by old content. So these links just end on 404. Is the best way just redirect all 404 to homepage by 301?

Thanks

I meant using the guide you outlined and once the key indicators are showing in GWC, 301 pages in .htaccess or domain registrar, as you said, to money site for question/answer #2 above. Is that safer?

It is risky to 301 multiple domains as you have suggested to your money site. You can get away with a couple, but if it was me, I would not redirect them only to the root, I would redirect to specific silos, or pages. I would never do more than 3, usually no more than 2. It is not natural, and your competitors will report your site and it will get a manual review and penalty.

As for .htaccess or registrar. I use both, for different reasons. I am not always 100% convinced that the registrar or Cpanel redirect do a proper job, whereas you know that .htaccess does it right, as long as you code it correctly.

Your 4 step process makes a lot of sense for moneysites, but what about for PBN's? A few days ago I asked "how to use GSC with PBN's" here https://www.blackhatworld.com/posts/13205878/ and most people agreed you should never touch your PBN with GSC.

I'm presuming you'd just replace the GSC data with Ahrefs data, correct?

Hi

I just recover the site from Wayback downloader

But there is one thing want to confirm with you that:

1. expired domain using WWW and HTTP

2. After recovering, I use without www, and install the SSL to HTTPS

Hence, is any problems with this? Becasue previously backlink pointed to the site with WWW and starting with HTTP

except for these two changes on the URL, the rest for the folder and words which are 100% SAME as before.

By far the best guide about working with Expired domains I seen.

A little is missing, about how to buy drop domains and find then. But even so. Amazing guide.

Hi there,

I have read your guide which is a pure gold mine :) I know very well how to convert expired domains into money site.

But i want to know what about using expired domain as a PBN.? You follow same strategy.? Rebuild old content & then bin and put new content or something else.?

Thanks.

That depends if you can get away with using the old content without getting complaints etc. If I feel I am not going to have an issue, I will leave the old content up, if I feel that it could cause issues, I will bin it, either rewrite the pages with the juice, or leave them as the old content. The create links from those pages to the domain root, or the article with the link to my money site.

Basically, it all comes down to if I think I can get away with it or not. If there are any doubts I play it safe.

So you use internal linking to push all the non homepage juice back to the homepage?
