AMP: Yay or nay?

Okay, so I've been debating the actual use of AMP on any of my currently running projects, I even refused to use it on clients websites for a long time now.

I've been asked by a client to implement it onto their website, now the issue is I don't like using things that I've never used before. I've seen majorly mixed reviews, some people saying the use of AMP improved the ranking of their website, and some people making claims that the whole feature is a dud and not worth actually implementing.

So I'd like to hear other peoples experiences using it, why do you like it and whether it's actually a bonus to utilise or not.

like usual, one product wont fit for all people, and so with AMP, it is not suit for every website. Just give it a try and see the results.

mine, i don't see any significant impact, only fast load but poor ctr

Amp is good for newspapers style blogs, just my opinion.

Nay. Ive never used and never will unless google only ranks with amp enabled.

I was thinking that myself, I see way more magazine/newspapers make effective use of it than anything else.

This was my original opinion, just trying to see what the community suggests - I've also seen people suggest that AMP is actually a negative impact on your website if used improperly.

Even basic HTML if used unproperly will hurt overall structure that's no doubt. I try now a full AMP site, sooner or later this will be the future, as they change from desktop to mobile crawler+AMP section in Search Console.

I suggest using a transitional way if you are not a developer, or use a plugin if you use wp.

With Google mobile first, AMP is a must. I think.

AMP's USP is page load speed, if you want speed, go for any SPA framework like React. (Doing SEO for this can be a bit tricky tho, it is possible however.)

I started using AMP so now I have to keep doing it or I'll loose ranking. But it is HELL. I have issues constantly, and many of them I can't resolve. I use an AMP plugin for WP, tried several, same thing

That's true, however right now I wouldn't say that AMP is going to be the future, as it strips a hell of a lot of the website away in order to accelerate the pages.

I've worked with React framework, but I'm not a fan of doing the SEO side of things, it's annoying

I am using an AMP template in one of my sites, mainly because visitors were close to 90% coming from mobile, so it was something i wanted to test. But right now, tools, templates, guides, ides, anything related is hard to find (expensive if you do).

Anecdotally, I've switched about half of my Amazon affiliate sites to AMP, and left the others as they were. It has not correlated to increased rankings. The caveat is that my mobile versions were already fairly fast. But if you can make it look nice AMP certainly is very quick to load.

Did it increase in CTR? And traffic? If your position remains stable I guess you would have a higher CTR because of the amp logo on the serp

Im also thinking of making a few amp pages (simple pages) and link them with money pages. Just not sure if it's worth the hassle. I don't see a lot discussion on this forum around amp unfortunately
