Seriously: you ready for Coronavirus?

Sometimes even more:

Yeah I saw the 27 day one but rumors that it can be 40 days.

This virus is a SOB.

The flu only spreads when it is already acting. This MF spreads before it shows symptoms.
27 or 40 days or whatever doesn't make any sense. How would you even track an infection back that far? Its more likely that they cane into contact with another infected person in the last 14 days, which is usually the longest incubation period. In most cases its 5 to 6 days.

It might to someone who's actually a medical professional though.

Identify someone you know has the virus that came in contact with the current person, and then ascertain that the only time they ever physically came in contact was 27 or 40 days ago, I guess. If people can build skyscrapers I bet they can figure that out too.

But things can change.

Where's the stats for that?

Get information from Google and Apple about where the person has been, and people that have been near them. Literally almost everyone carries a device that can track where they have been everyday for years.

"But things can change"

Doesnt change anything about the fact that there mightve been some other infected person they met in the last 14 days without knowing. So they didnt get infected from the first infected person they met, but the second, of whom they didnt know that they were infected.

Just new research by China's National Health Commission, and Reuters:

The CDC is basing its estimate of up to 14 days on the incubation period of MERS, which while it's related to COVID-19 obviously could have a wildly different incubation time, and shouldn't really be the way of estimating COVID-19's incubation time.

"But things can change" means that like anything that's addressed scientifically, there's no such thing as an immutable fact. With new information, knowledge evolves. The same is true in this case. Initially an incubation time of x days might have seemed like a true upper bound. However now we have more data to work with, and based on that "facts" can change.

I'm from Italy, luckily I don't live in a big city and there aren't cases close to me. No fucking way I'm going to crowded places.
Every sport activity and crowded place has restriction right now (pools, gyms, cinemas etc), but I don't think they will be able to really enforce them. (1-2
Apart from the red zones everyone is going to work without masks. Authorities say that masks are recommended only for the infected ones.
I just saw my relatives today and that was risky enough :D
But if you dare and try to call a few hotels, you may be able to get a pretty decent 5 star suite in Venice for like 80€ /night, maybe they'll make a better offer too if you book a whole month :D
(Tom Cruise was stuck in Venice until a few days ago, he flew away in his own jet but what if he took the virus, as he was filming with the whole troupe :p)

I think that they closed schools way too late. I have a feeling that many children got the virus and are still in the incubation period.
And if a children got the virus, now that they are all day at home it'll spread to the whole family. Then someone from that family has to go out to work and it'll spread at workplace etc
It's a shitty situation.
I know it's crazy to halt a whole nation, but can you afford ~3% of deaths if it spreads big?
Also many get the virus but have no symptoms, they just infect others without even knowing

I'd say don't fully trust politicians, they don't really give a damn about people's health, they're thinking of not scare people too much otherwise the country would default pretty quickly... that's why I prefer to be paranoid.
They are telling us that a vaccine here will take as much as 12 months to be ready.

Wow the empty photo contrast is amazing.

Scary.

Seeing some photos on twitter. Supermarkets running out of everything in several US cities.

Shit just got real.

the (new) pope had already been tested and it was negative. 600+ residents inside those walls, I hear they're touchy-touchy there, pretty sure they'll get all infected. :D

yeah yeah only fault in that post is that you can't calculate CFR like that right now in real time, as deaths lag ~2 weeks after the case is registered... aka more death will follow even after the last case is registered.

new fresh data as today, Italy and Iran +1000 in the last 24h :eek::eek:
(Italy until now was including the asymptomatic ones into the total cases. That's the reason of the higher CFR vs other countries. They said now will count only those with symptoms as new cases)

Tom Cruise is immortal, does not get sick

fresh updates:
Italy locked out Lombardy and a few other northern regions for A MONTH from today, around 1/4 of the total population. But...
the gov decree leaked to the press before entering into force and people rushed to the train stations, you guess it, spreading it even more. o_O Also, voices are spreading about not having enough police units available to really enforce a total lockdown...
What a mess. Schools, gyms, museums, pubs, pools, theaters 100% locked down in those areas but will soon be applied nationwide.
Law courts are deferring every case but the really urgent ones nationwide. Prisoners can't enter jails if they tested positive.
Gov is panic hiring 20000 doctors and nurses and they are calling back on duty the retired ones (how many of these will survive many being well over 65?).
This "dem" government doesn't have balls to put the army on the streets and stop these stupid snowflakes partying around, as that wouldn't be politically correct. Regional governors instead were already asking the lockdown two weeks ago.
A regional dem governor that went around claiming "nothing is happening" and held social events until a few days ago, now has just tested positive. God knows how many he infected.

Stupid people yesterday were still drinking their Martinis in Milan's packed pubs like nothing happened, others flying to the Alps for a skiing weekend.

Leaked text from gov member "if people are doing these stupid things after all the warnings, well don't blame us, they'll die as soon there will not be enough beds in ICU" :D

They are moving ICU patients (not coronavirus related) from red zones to other regions to free beds in ICUs.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson keeps calm but Whitehall plans for worst. Ministers are preparing for a potential coronavirus death toll as high as 100,000 as they try to brace the country for months of upheaval without spreading panic.

Interesting conspiracy theory I read somewhere:

Both in Lombardy and Wuhan you see message of lockdown leaked hours before implementation, because that was how it was intended to be -- to drive the most energetic, mobile people, those capable of fight or flight outside so they don't stack inside the quarantined zone,

About the Lombardy one I know it was leaked in draft form directly to CNN before the local authorities knew, even before it was signed by PM...

New data just released:
