Hey guys, I've been in this forum for a while now and I've earned 220 dollars in 2 years of big online work

Man, I will tell you a few things about my story. Started with IM 7 years ago, with adult sites, I was 500% noob, made my first 5$ after 6-7 months, and I was, wtf, if I can make 5$ I can make 50$ for sure, time passed, made mistakes, learned a lot, and now, after 7 years of hard work, a lot of nights without sleep, now I'm doing good, with ups and downs of course.

The most important thing, you will make money when you choose the path that you like to do it, without thinking how much money can bring in the future, then keep working only in that area, till you master it, till you dream it. Be the best in what you do, and money will come in the end.

I am proud of you as a fellow African. The fact that PayPal is not yet in Benin makes it an uphill climb for anyone trying to earn online over there. I find myself lucky since we have PayPal services in Kenya and it is the only service many would trust with online transactions.

I hope for your sake you're either a minor or have a main source of income because that $220 probably wouldn't even cover the 'cost' of inflation. Let alone any expenses.

$220 in 2 years is absolutely shit. Reading your post, I could see that your english is really good. I believe you just were in the wrong field. Why don't you try content writing/copywriting and maybe start your own agency? Those services pay quite a lot when you start working for big people/organizations/companies.

How were you getting your clients?

I got leads from multiple social networks for beats but the guys willing to pay me were all from INstagram and one from Facebook. I just post the beats and optimize as much as possible. Making sure the beat and the video are good, using hashtags also. I promote my IG by using dm.

For web design work , I got the client from LinkedIn. I dm people, write posts like once a week to advertise my services and interact with many posts I see in my feed giving as much value as I can. The client I got just saw one of my posts, went to my agency website and liked it. He said that even big agencies in Benin don't do sites like mine and he chose me because he felt I was very good. Tbh it was just a ready made template I got on wordpress, didn't need to code shit. It's like Benin web designers / developpers don't even have good taste in choosing templates. Sorry for bashing them so much but I.T is pitiful in Benin, I wish I had done a computer science degree.

Don't listen to all the fake positive people who say "it's a great start" and "you are on the right track".

200 dollars in 2 years is extremely low. If you still aren't seeing a pattern of income, then you must switch up your strategy and what you are doing. Re-evaluate.

I imagine that you are spending at least 2-3 hours a day on your projects. That's A LOT of time if counting 2 years. I wouldn't want to continue paying with my time (working) for that small amount. If you are spending 5 minutes a day, then sure, 200 dollar is alright.

But you must value your own time and labour. You are putting in your life, after all.

When I first started IM, it took me a whole year before I started making any money. It probably took me 8-10 months before I made my first 10 dollars. But I could see a pattern and I kept testing things with my websites. I could see what got attention, what people paid for and so on. If I wouldn't have seen indications that I could earn money this way, I would have stopped and tried something else instead. I don't want to waste my time on something that is dead from the start.

I don't know what your goal is, but if you want to make bread and be serious then my tips would be to:

- Re-evaluate what you are doing. What's a waste of time and what's not.
- Get obsessed with one thing and work on it like a robot. Day and night develop and breathe your website/service/company.
- When you are not working on your project, study the field to get better at it.
- Don't do several things at once. Give 100% to one thing.
- Become a producer instead of a consumer.

And like I said, it took me a whole year before I saw any kind of pocket money. Now 3-4 years later I am doing much, much better.

So I think if you focus on beatmaking for example, you could earn nice amount of money once you figure out your paypal issue, which you already seem to have somewhat figured out. You could make a website and Instagram and just send 50 dms to upcoming rappers I'm sure at least 1 week will say yes for 50$ or something, that's 200 a month if all goes well and you get more for your portfolio.

Just curious, are you making money from beatmaking? I used to produce music when I was a teen and I was utter shit. But I remember there was always beatmakers around who were selling their beats. I always wondered how much they were making. I imagine that unknown rappers are not the best clientel to have.

No, I'm not , I have seen a few people sell SoundCloud designs (banners which took them probably 10 minutes) and stuff like that to small rappers on Instagram and they designed for like 20 rappers a month I'm guessing for at least 15$ so I'm sure beats would work too.

I'm producer as well and sold some self-made presets for Synth VST's in the past. Maybe that's an interesting approach for you to go. Sell the 'parts' to other producers instead of the end product to rappers (which are usually broke before they have a carreer and expect free beats while rapping over millions.. )

I was doing bullshit at the beginning too, Yeah some beatmakers are really banking.
YouTube seems to be the best way to make a lot but it never worked for me. It's IG that works for me. I dm ANY rapper I see, big or small. I got responses from some big rappers by doing that also. The guys that bought from me are rather unknown, but some are popular in their city. They tend to be 23+ years old and definitely have a job.
