Yeah but simple F/U strategy won't even come close to a proper M/S setup with hundreds of accounts

If you do it separately it will work. Try to follow some people for a few hours, and afterwards unfollow a bunch of people. Just a few and not too fast. Split it into hours or even days.
Don't follow more than 200 people approx a day. As I said, also don't do all those actions in 30 minutes.
You need to behave like a human, sounds dumb, but you need to make sure instagram does not think you are botting and is actionblocking you.
You usually won't be banned for something like this.

Instagram is getting harder to trick by day.Back in august i did F/U method,about 350 follows per day,35 each hour.And that was without proxies and it worked fine.Had about 25% conversion rate of F/U.
New accounts now have no way of scaling ,you need to buy 2 years old accounts to do something and even then it is limited to 200/200 per day and 6000 F per month and that is if you do it correctly.If not,you will either get action block every 2 days or permaban.
They also implemented human recognition system,so they actually know if you are scrolling trough Instagram or is bot doing that for you.Organic growth is getting limited because Instagram wants you to convert to advertisments(sponsored posts).Now i have couple accounts which every second say are getting 24 hours ban.
It keeps going that way for about month now.No permabans and no 7 days ban,just 24 hours like 15 times now,which is also something i cant trace.
M/S is probably the way,but you need experience,you need to know what are you doing and it takes time.

follow/unfollow is the worst for now because of the instagram algorithms, you would get block

This got me a huge boost. People are interested and they want to know the unseen so they subscribe. If everything would be public they would lose their curiosity.

All of the method you mentioned here is legit & you must should go with some expenses here. Proper planning with great strategy anyone can be successful by giving their hundred percent efforts, actually it consumes your whole the day at the very first beginning. Go ahead; best of luck.
