Domanin extension's effect on ranking?

Hi guys,

I'm having domain extension .sk instead of .com because it's from my country.

I want to rank for a few keywords in USA and globally. Does domain extension has some effect on rankings when everything is optimized content and everything in English?

The domain has some strength already so I'm wondering if I should get some .com expired domain instead or what.

Nope. Search engine are crawling everything and they give priority to local sites in that region. If you host .sk locally it will be nice.

From my experience, depending on the extension, it actually can.
Not in a direct way of course, but for example, the .blog domain counts as 'blog in the URL.
So, if you were trying to rank for your domain name + blog, then this actually seems to help.
I feel this is important to note, because most domain extensions are just nonsense characters, rather then words.

but two things are there TLD and SLD
TLD is the Top level domain and second one is second level domain.
TLD is worldwide means example .com
SLD is regions wise .uk like this

If you're targeting a particular country, and the content, links and keywords(local) are optimized for that country, it ranks better for local search than other extension. But it's difficult for international market unless your site has more credibility.

You need to look into the competition of the keywords you want to rank and yes domain extension has a massive effect on ranking.If you want to rank globally .com is the best.But if the competition is low for your keywords you can also try with .sk extension but I would prefer .com if I need to expand globally in future.

There is also a rumor that your site DA is shifted from local to global after January 2020 update . If you redirect from local to global website(not sure about it).
