Start affiliate marketing from scratch

My name is Michael and i'm new to your forum.

I plan to start my adventure with making money online and have chosen a niche for affiliating poker rooms. I have a lot of experience in creating websites, so the technical aspect will not be a problem,I don't know much about promotion and marketing.
I would like to ask you as people experienced in earning money on the Internet, is the affiliation of poker rooms worthwhile at all, or is it better to choose something else (sportsbook, online casinos etc.)?

If so, what should I focus on when it comes to promotion? Which regions should I choose (countries) for promotion? Which affiliate networks should i choose? On what should i spend money to promote my website ?

I have many questions about this venture, so every hint attention will be extremely valuable to me. In this topic, I also plan to write my progress and activities, expenses, profits etc. to get more motivated.

I think what webtrader means is that you should test with your own content, because what may works for a certain type of content will not necessarily work with your own content. In SEO, testing is the first thing to do if you want your questions answered!

ok so i'm finishing my website. The main form of promotion on it will be good looking list of freerolls from almost every poker room availible on web with countries flag and many data. From some of providers i recived url to json/csv/api with tournaments list so function will be adding freerolls mostly automaticaly, but from some not and i have to add everyday manually not reapeating freerolls with conditions, rewards type, password etc., but it won't take many time , additional to this will be search option filter by country reward, reward, type etc. On the website of course will be unique articles offers info about professional players, rules and many more information. In e few days i will host my website and i will link it here so you can check what to add/remove what should i modify.

And after upload my website it will be the hardest part for me - promotion.
So i already joined to most affiliate website for poker rooms and now is a question

That's correct i need to target people as you described, but i don't know how to start to promote. Could you give me some tips or ways to start promoting such a website ?
