Website punished, now what?

It is hard but you must WAIT!

Too soon to do anything or draw any conclusions.

You are not the only one affected.

It's almost certainly:
  • algorithmic
  • an update
  • not manual penalty

Same issue here.
I checked, and no manual action... let's hope we'll get it back.
I was Top 3

As of yesterday, my primary money making website is effectively dead. It lost over 95% of its traffic and all keywords are down anywhere from 20-100 places. I'm assuming this isn't any algo change and is likely a manual penalty. The website was built on an expired domain and I did do some pbn 301s so I'm assuming one or both of these caught up with me.

I had some questions for anyone else whose gone through a similar event.

Does google immediately send the manual penalty message or do I need to wait sometime before I receive it?

After I deindex the pages, is the content reuseable?

I've already begun work on my next site. The competition is stiffer than when I initially started but by no means unbeatable. I'm going to try to use this as a learning lesson not to rest on my laurels.

Now I need to figure out if my pbn was also compromised or if they just got my main site.
Every time I think I am getting somewhere I hear there is a Google Update happening.

literally on the same boat as you are..

my first site also got hit from page 1 to page 10 real quick .. Although what's really strange is, last week my 2nd site got hit and its slowly recovering its keyword spots this week. Google never fails to surprise me.

Okay did an analysis the websites which followed silo structure were the ones that survived

I didn't read that you checked webmaster tools. Google will not send you an email regarding your manual action to your domain. Add the website to webmaster tools, verify it if you didn't and check under manual actions. There you will see if it was a penalty or just Google dance.

Nothing in search console yet.

The same here...I lost 40-50% of my organic traffic... No blackhat methods, no PBN links...

Looks like sum hard knock update is rolling out. Two websites lost tons of traffic, from top 10 dropped bellow top 100. My first impression was manual penalty, but what a chance getting two penalties on a different website on a different topics (not linked to each other) the same day.

This might just be a G dance. Relax and let's see if the stats spike up.

same here 15+ sites moved from page 1 to page 10.. let see what happens in the next

it seems today that some keywords are back to where they were a few days ago but only half a dozen organic visits today so far. The attached screenshot shows the uptick

Did you do make any changes to your site to trigger the KW return?

My site also lost its rankings but well it was a new site with only some Web 2.0 backlinks.
I was on #95 still building the site
But now I don’t know which position it is
But all sites are still indexed.
If it’s a penalty will all sites vanish also from results ?

god... I have 15 sites and 5 of them moved also from page 1 to page 10... and a lot of my others websites I have lost somes positions.
I hope really that this is temporary

I have this problem too, some keyword are still ranked 1st but some dropped from the first page
Question is, if some websites went down, then others should have gone up. Is anyone experiencing an unusual traffic boost? (and what did you do recently??)

Anyone with any positive things to report?

For every loser there must be a winner, right? :D

I have not looked into this in any type of detail. However, I would also quickly check to see if you have any "mixed content" issues on your pages. Google did publically say they were going to address this issue in Dec. 2019. The stated penalty was potentially not allowing the page to render on Chrome but maybe it is being addressed differently. Just a wild guess.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately we are the merct of Google and always have to try and outsmart it.

I would suggest always having more and more domains. You never k ow when you get hit and it is good to have a backup, especially if you take shortcuts.

What's happened, op? Did you get a notification?
