Don't make the mistake I made

Sad for your loss.

If it's normal HDD some HD recover guy can get data from disks of it even media card is lost.

That's why we have been using cloud since 2012 for important files mostly.

Happened to me in 2017, when I lost my SSD. I forget it in a public place and when I returned there to ask the manager if he saw it, he denied. Months after that some of his friends called me by my 2nd name. The proof that the manager was the one who stole it, but what can I do to prove that ? So I let it go.
It sucks, but you'll get over it.

you can keep an auto-destruct app on the drive to prevent data loss. give it a name that is sure to draw attention ("nude girlfriend pics") and when clicked it will delete the drive contents. something like the old "hard-drive killer" would work.

Sorry to hear that, I hope you will restore the files from your disk.

My Laptop have SSD (for software and OS) + HDD (for everything), while most of the important files are on my Google One, I have backup also on my external SSD which is connected on my home network so it is easy to backup all my phone devices + laptop.

There I was, half-way through writing an article I've been working on for 5 hours. I take a five-minute break, make some coffee, return to my laptop, and BAM... I return to my computer to read a "hardrive not detected" error.

Quickly, I researched the Dell forum and saw others with similar issues.

Based on the successful attempts others had with unscrewing the rear of the laptop and disconnecting/reconnecting the HD, I did exactly that.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I disconnected and reconnected the HD two times; no luck.

Now, let's talk about what was lost:
  • Over 100,000 words I've authored that were used as samples.
  • A list of over 100 business/service ideas
  • Hundreds (if not thousands) of photos
  • 50Gb worth of movies
  • Logins to WP sites and projects
  • Random entertainment/media collection items
  • $5,000+ worth of collected software
There's more but I'm not going to make this a full-page thread.

Needless to say, I showed my laptop some love after coming to terms with the fact that the HD died (I'm 99.5% sure).

Please, back up your s***, save it, put it on the cloud, keep it on a separate external drive. Protect your assets!

This one hurt, but I know to protect myself moving forward. :(

i accidentaly removed important stuff recently when was cleaning the disk

anyway

i googled best clouds and google drive is the best. unlimited daily transfer +15gb.

(mega nz has only 1gb per 6hr)

i suggest u to use google drive.

i am syncing whole DISK with it, its only up to 15 gb but its enough for me, i have a lot of files and only took few gbs by now.

i am also launching the drive automatically everyday at midnight, and closing it hour later, also automatically with task scheduler.

damn. The last thing that can help in these Situations is visiting a local IT-Shop for help. Usually if they can't save the data, it can't be saved anymore. This can happen so fast its ridiculous. I keep all my business ideas on my phone lol. I hope it won't die.

My Hard drive also died once unexpectedly. I had written a whole book which took me 6 months and I did not have it saved anywhere else. Luckily for me, they could save the data and put it on a new hard drive.

Yup, its one of IMers code, always have an Auto backup in Cloud

Been considering a external hard-drive for sometime now.

I am sorry for your lost.

Ouch bro. Just ouch.

This happened to me in high school.
I was working on a 2000 word essay, took a 5-minute break, made some coffee, returned to my desk, and BAM... dog ate my homework!

All jokes aside, that sucks and I am now browsing Amazon for an SSD.

Get me one too while you're at it.

Would of personally advised to update the BIOS firmware if the laptop was untouched, HDs are very rare to physically fail. SSDs on the other hand have a lifespan of roughly 2 years.

Sorry to hear that.
Maybe you need .edu email with gdrive
Backup all your work in the "cloud".

I hear ya, I know this feeling.. exact same thing I did a few years ago... I kept on adding media without any backups. Login IDs, Passwords, ebooks, Movies, software/tools, wp themes/plugins and 50 other categories that I can't remember right now was lost.. vanished poof!! like an imaginary tooth fairy.. Couldn't recover and no way to gather all that back. Since then I have bought External HDDs to back up all the shit I gather... its actually a routine now, every 1st of the month I do this backup thingy without fail. This way I make sure I have a backup of 80% of the data any point in time.
Rest the Login and passwords are saved in the browser with a different email account with the same deal.
I have never felt so much better, puts the mind at ease.
For you OP, I truly am sorry, it feels worse than a breakup :P but you'll get over this eventually.

Sorry to hear. It's still possible to recover the data, depending on what caused the hard drive to fail. Check with your local and experienced tech shops. Usually they can pull out the physical disk that holds the data and put it in a functioning device to read it. All of that takes place in a clean room, or at least a clean box to make sure dust particles don't damage the drive while 'in surgery'. This is gonna be pricey but it's worth it. There are even dedicated companies to exclusively data restoration, but mailing them the drive can also put it in danger of added damage during transit, so it's a compromise.

I do professional Hard drive recovery services, if you could ship it to where I live (USA) then I could try to get all the files and throw em on a private dropbox or something

Free of charge ofcourse for bluegang
