Why did yo attempt a recovery? You should have contacted dell and they fix it, every time there’s a issue with my laptop I hit their twitter, within minutes they contact me and fix, or they send someone to fix it for me. Next time remember use their support, and sorry for your loss hopefully you’ll be able to recollect again
 
You don't need to spend a dime to get a decent backup set up :

Google drive : offers free 15 GB of cloud storage
Bitbucket : for your code samples & projects
Microsoft OneNote : For ur text samples
 
I feel you man..Happened to me twice with dell laptops..never using them again !
 
I have had the same issue as you. that's why I'm always having at least 3 backup mirror for important data.
 
That is something that is scary to think about it, many of us do not take into account the fact of making a backup of our important files even if we want to. I'm so sorry for what happened to you partner

Sorry to hear about your loss. Must be frustrating. I guess a reminder for me to always back up important document. Hope you were able to recover something, anything at all.

That's why i use Sublime, because whenerv my laptopt shutdown or force update or electricity goes off Sublime save the text automatically
