Google steals over half the world's traffic

This has been going on for some time now and its increasing. I don't see why or how they would change it in our favour. Also I don't think they have any bad intention (for example to earn more money) they just wanna be more user-friendly by directly showing some results in the serps.

They still have to look at the whole picture not just focus on their own selfish interest.
Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee created the WWW for the free world not for some sick monopoly giant!

Welcome to capitalism :smirk:

Why someone don't just create a new search engine that scrapes google, serving the same result without any ad?

I think it's fair, paying them with the same coin.

Using their resources and hard work to make a new search engine and telling them, if you dont want me to scrape your site, add a fucking noindex tag into your website.

Google could simply block requests from certain IP addresses.

Some people have tried to create adblocking software. Google's response has either been to pay the developers or to prevent the software from being installed from the Play Store.

Since Google also owns Chrome and Android, it can make it harder for people to install adblockers.

That's what duckduckgo and startpage do. Except they don't scrape, they pay for the google api methinks.

Duckduckgo is an ok search engine.

When Steve Jobs died, Apple should have started a search powered by duckduckgo.
All they needed was a picture of Steve Jobs in the home page to get it going.

Google pays around $10 billion to Apple to remain the default search engine on Safari. If Duck Duck Go or some other company outbid what Google has to offer, then Apple wouldn't mind making a switch. But yea, we all know that won't happen

‘Google has been around for ages. I can't imagine how they'd stay up for so long being a scam.’

I remember the days when keywords were ranked within a day or two. And then Google decided to start changing its algorithm making it now impossible to rank for newbies. I used to have 400k traffic on one of my sites and now it is just around 40k-50k.

and they talk about privacy

How do you expect your content to be found ? can you block google crawler from your site and still expect traffic ? where do you get your traffic from ?

It is true. I myself has stopped clicking and going to the pages because the content I want is right in front of me in the search results. Though they show a preview with two or three lines of sentences in the past, the way they show content in the search results now is unacceptable IMHO.

If they want to be more user-friendly then they should create their own content to show off with.
