Do Redirects and URL shortners work for SEO?

Hello Everyone,

Recently I was looking for some back links and on MOZ found that bitly and google URL shortened links and redirects are providing DA to the main website. From here I analyzed that they do provide DA to the main site(Correct me if wrong). Are these really helpful for the SERP movement or just a MOZ thing? If so how to get a few of them indexed?

They do count as backlinks and they do increase the Ahrefs metrics (DR) or Moz metrics (DA). But since both are external parties, those metrics are not viewed by Google.
We can't know if Google counts shorteners as an important backlink. They might have zero value in the eyes of Google.

As far as redirects from expired or live domains: they do work.

Yeah they do, but if you're doing a redirect from a website, it's best to do it with a 302.

Link Research Tools found that the power that comes from a 302 contains much more
power and the longevity of the redirect stays unlike a 301 will ultimately drop in power
over time.

Redirects can work from shortener, best way to use those is if you have an option like
bitly.com is to rename the URL to your main keyword and/or your brand name for
maximum results.

Many of these will of course go through an internal no-follow, but depending on where
the redirect is coming from and if you can rename the redirect shortener, that will depend
how much power and how much relevance and in the end how much the link will help
you for what you're doing.

Yeah, 301's will lose power over time.

302 have tested to hold power longer and more power over all.

Most of them (bit dot do, is dot gd, ...) are 301.

But again if you have a shortener you're using that you can edit the URL name then you can pass relevance
from the URL and don't worry so much about the power transfer from that point.
