I have made multiple reports about this thread, and the action taken has not been satisfactory to me, and I feel it's time to move my concerns into the public eye.

https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/h...ements-request-sample-links-by-niche.1127960/

This marketplace thread is made by Leith, a Jr. Executive VIP member.

The rule violations: Bumping multiple times within 72 hour period, and violating the Marketplace Content Standards.

Marketplace rules - How To Post - Updated NO Sales thread bumping.

Members found to be bumping their thread (deleting a post and then reposting it AND / OR placing consecutive posts within a 72 hour period) will receive a 1 month ban and their Marketplace thread(s) will be removed.

Bumping clarified - What you cannot do and how to get around it:

1. Promote your Sales thread more than once every 72 hours, this includes putting an advert or coupon style text underneath your response to a question or responding to an order confirmation.

Leith is including an advert and coupon style image underneath his responses almost every 24 hours. By having a giant image that says "request samples below," he is encouraging users to bump his thread when most of them can just send him a private message, and it gives him an excuse to reply to people. The replies he makes are totally unnecessary. There is no need to quote people and tell them you sent them a sample. They are given notifications that they have a private message. The image has a text saying "10% off" with an outline around it as if you are supposed to cut off the 10% off and use it as a coupon in stores. There is no logical argument that this is not an advert or coupon style text.

On June 12 I made my first report, and it seems to have been actioned by MisterF, who deleted one of the posts, and gave a reminder to Leith about the rules. Leith thanked MisfterF for this reminder. This should have prompted Leith to read the marketplace rules, especially regarding bumping. So there is no excuse for this.

Marketplace Content Standards

This isn't the first thread I have made about this issue. I was told last time to hit the report button. I did that on June 12th, and whether it was an oversight or intentionally ignored, I don't know, but I do know that no action was taken.

Un-Quantifiable Claims

This is, in my understanding, a list of the type of claims that are not allowed to be used to describe a service in the marketplace.

"'We Are Better Than Our Competitors' Claims" - Right in the title, he claims the product is "WAY BETTER." How can you measure "way better?"

He goes on in his thread to imply that any vendor selling something called "niche edits" are selling hacked links. This may be true, but he has nothing to support such a claim. It is a direct attack on other marketplace sellers. If other marketplace sellers are selling hacked links, this is something that needs to be addressed immediately by the moderators and admins, in my opinion. What confuses me most, is that it seems he is actually selling what most of us would refer to as a "niche edit."

I wont put too much effort into my other concerns regarding sales talk that focuses too much on telling you these are the greatest links, for the best price, and definitely better than anyone else, because the clearest violations take place in his first response after his thread was approved. Maybe he did it intentionally knowing his first post would be less scrutinized than his actual sales thread?

In his "F.A.Q & Important Notes" he claims the following:

Our link placements are 100% safe - Violation of Marketplace standard "100%" and "Safe"

Are these link placements safe? Yes, our link placements are all on real, genuine websites. - Once again, describing such a black hat link building service as "Safe"

We’re certain our standards are the highest in the industry when it comes to reviewing potential sites. - "Adjectives Ending In "-est" and "We Are Better Than Our Competitors' Claims"

Again, I don't expect mods to be perfect. I can't imagine the number of reports they deal with. However, I also don't know what else to do when I make a clear report, and violations continue to take place. We are talking about a Jr Executive VIP member who already received a "warning" here.

I don't like singling out individuals, I don't want to make "enemies" of any kind. But we have rules that we all need to follow for the fair and respectable operation of the forum.

Most sellers do this. Some sellers even 'coach' users what to write in their BSTs ("x is the best").

There's also a difference in terms of the rules between bumping and responding to a BST. However, many sellers do use the 24 hour response rule as a way of bumping their BSTs.

I've had a couple of sellers who provided me with review copies tell me to post in their BST thread confirming that I made an order or something to bump their threads, and I just refuse to do it. The problem is that like you say, most sellers do this, and so most of them think it is totally fine, but I just see it as abusing the system to bump their threads with totally unnecessary posts.

There is a difference between bumping and responding to a BST, but I pointed that out. If you include a coupon style text or advertisement in your response to questions, it counts as a "bump" and is subject to the 72 hour limit.

That is actually being addressed. Sometimes things take time and most of those issues are not on Leith but on me as I was the approving Mod.

The proper way to handle this though is to send a PM to the approving Mod and not complain in public.

theres always gonna be people trying to work round rules
to gain an edge, you have 3 choices.

1 - concentrate on your own products and dont worry about others
2 - pm the user and politely point out what there doing is against bst rules
3 - pass it to a mod.

pick 1.

You are going to get a lot of hate.

However, I can say I appreciate your critical eye. And this is not the first time.

As far as I'm aware, the 24 hour rule hasn't changed.

Within 24 hours, you can reply to all queries once. And can do bump once within 72 hours. Before we can bump once within 24 hours.

Edit - My mistake I got your point the way you wrote. My poor English :- (

Within 24 hours, you can reply to all queries once.

This is my point - there are plenty of BSTs where sellers respond every 24 hours saying things like "thank for order", "order confirmed", "review copy sent" etc. They are only doing this to bump their BSTs.

As I said, I raised my concerns previously about these sorts of issues.

https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/white-hat-link-sellers-in-marketplace.1121426/

I was told "If you find any more, please use the report button and we'll address the issues." So, I did use the report button. Multiple times on this thread. I think I made a total of 3 reports? 2 for bumping, and 1 for the content standards. I appreciate that you think most of the issues are not on Leith, but I don't agree. The primary concerns I have happened after you approved the thread. I don't know how mods manage their work, but if you are saying that you want to take ownership over all concerns with threads you approve, then perhaps there should be a notation added to your review, to PM you if you have concerns about the thread.

I had a previous concern with a sales thread, where I PMed the approving mod to discuss it, and their response was "For any issues with sellers (open a shitlist)."

I also think it's important for transparency and for public discussion and overall improvement of the forum to occasionally address these publicly. It seems you disagree. I can respect that, and I can respect your wishes, but I followed what I was told to do last time, and nothing was done, and it was over a week since I first reported my concerns, and the bumps were just happening every day so I thought this was a fair and reasonable action.

When you include a coupon or advertisement of your thread, it's 72 hours per reply. If you ONLY answer questions, it's 24 hours.

Don't worry about potential competition? That seems like a bizarre way to do business. Don't worry about rule violations? Well that seems a bit dangerous.

I could PM the user, but I don't feel comfortable doing so.

I did pass it to a mod, via the report system. Multiple times.

I think the "Ask for sample" or "ask for a discount code" should be forbidden (hence the unnecessary replies would be eliminated as well). It takes me 5 pages of sifting through "sample pls" to find a proper review. I wouldn't single out sellers like this since they're just doing what they can to stay competitive.

I should clarify then as I was too short in my answer.

As to the issues of claims in the original post of that thread that are not accurate or outside the rules, those are on me as I approved it. I missed them and I could explain why but those would only be excuses and it is on me 100%.

I've addressed that and a new graphic is on it's way but it takes time and we allow time for most situations.

As to anything else after that I'm not aware as I rarely follow a sales thread but for the original post that is not on the seller at all. It's on my failing to handle that as it should have been handled originally.

For that, the proper response is to PM the approving Mod, which in this case is me.

I've addressed it without a nudge from anyone as I saw it when I was doing something else inside that thread but still, I would always welcome a PM if it looks like I screwed the pooch in a BST approval.

I also think it's important for transparency and for public discussion and overall improvement of the forum to occasionally address these publicly.

If it's discussing the forum overall (rules, how things work, don't work etc.) then sure this is the right place.

If it's discussing an individual member, then the right place is in a PM with admin/mods.

The only exception to the above is when @Sherb catches someone with their pants down.
