Can you learn a programming language the same in udemy as in school?

I am asking this because I saw a course to make 2d/3d games on udemy and teaching c# and I would like to know if you can learn decently on udemy? I was on school taking a programming course but I got demotivated and gave up. I kinda got interest in it again since you could develop your own games in unity with learning c#.
Has anyone learn decently any programming language on udemy?

I know it depends on course but need to know if anyone actually learned some decent programming on it so I know if Its worth to take my time on a course

I have several friends who went to Uni to study computer programming and most of them were pretty disappointed. The curriculum is full of outdated software and information that’s no longer important. So I actually think that a course, whether it’s online or IRL, would teach you more than even a college education could. Udemy seems like a great choice, if they’re teaching contemporary techniques.

Some Quora courses are shit. Some school courses are shit. Some don't have the discipline to learn themselves if someone isn't standing over them 40 hours a week.

Can you learn to be a competent developer without going to an offline school? Yes. Is one necessarily better than another? No.

First, you'll have to understand that not all uni's, schools, or other educational institutions offer high quality content.
There are school that are completely shit and honestly speaking you'll get more education out of youtube, but they do offer you one, really important thing.
A diploma, and no, it's not useless as most kids would tell ya.
If you're willing to get going in the industry really fast, get yourself that shit piece of paper and jump straight into the working field.

Now to answer your question, I found udemy courses that are really good, some are alright, some are straight crap.

A short answer is, YES, udemy can offer the same grade quality content as a good university, if you find the right course to compare it to what they offer in unviersities.

But, keep in mind that if you have to choice of going to an university, do so, the future you will kiss the hell out of your current ass.

Udemy is good as you get time to do the courses as and when you have spare time. Plus you can go back and read again what you are unsure of.
There are plenty of free codes and also discounted codes for courses on there.

Just keep an eye on when the course content was last updated though.

I'm very in favor of learning through online resources. You can use udemy, MOOC's, Youtube videos, and also pdf books. I learned a couple of programming languages using just online resources.

In my experience I could tell you school isn't a good place to learn programming bc of the knowledge you acquired depends most of the part on your teacher and his learning methods,
So if you are a begginer I would recommend you to start to learn coding in Youtube, udemy beginner's tutorials have no much difference with Youtube ones.

At the end of the day, though, you have to have something feeding you knowledge, somewhere to ask questions when you are stuck, some way to see working examples to compare your work, and some kind of motivation to keep you going. If you can fill a spot for each of those and stick with it, you'll start learning. Udemy on it's own is good for sending out knowledge. Most of the info can be found elsewhere for free, but it takes digging around. Stack Overflow is great for questions, GitHub for seeing examples, and you can find motivation just about anywhere. Mine's usually right here in the forums.

Online courses tend to be short to keep you motivated. While this is a good thing if you want to learn a new programming language, you don't learn how to programme (algorithms etc). Too add uni is more than just learning one skill. Is about forming and while some shitty unis are outdated, they teach you things you didn't know that you didn't know. You don't have a curriculum in your mind when you learn on udemy only.
Oh yeah, you meet new people, love of your life and network with successful people at uni so you'd be missing that staying home.
Lastly, be a sheep not a hero. Neither of of education alternatives is best but better go to uni like everyone else and be employed like anyone else and enjoy a stressfree work life whith a decent pay, since programmers are paid very well wherever you are. You need that shitty piece of paper that has diploma written on it. Take it easy man.
While I do encourage you to learn extra on youtube, reas real books, take courses but most importantly get into uni and have your life on safe tracks

So then Udemy is not for you. Online courses aren't motivating, they require self motivation and discipline.

I taught myself programming well after I graduated college. I'm no expert, but I think you learn it by doing it, not by taking a class and doing a few exercises from school. Start off with a small project, and then learn to code as you go. Good luck.

What matters the most is whether you want to work as a programmer or not. Seriously!

Also, stop thinking about whether language a is better than language b. You can get a job in language z, and can earn more money than the person you follow; who happens to work in language a/b.

If I ever hired you in my company, it would be for what you know; and not where you studied and bla bla bla.

Went to school for computer science, learned most of my programming on my own. But I will say the courses helped me think differently in terms of logic and problem solving that helped me become a better programmer. It's easy to learn the language and syntax, but to learn how to apply it is something different.

In most cases I believe Udemy courses are indeed better than those in school. They are filtered and provide you with exact information while in school you're getting tons of outdated/unnecessary information. In the end it's all up to you. Simply reading/following a course won't do anything for you. It's the practice that matters the most.

Can't say the same. I went to University of Toronto for CompSci and the researchers there were always making big moves. Lot of shit schools out there though.
