Hi,

until now I focused only on "free" trafic and SEO and I wanted to try some ads to see how it goes.

I tried to create a Youtube Ad, but my ad got disapproved. I understand the reason why, as my niche is in a "borderline area" when you read their policies.

Yet what I don't understand is that some competitors are doing ads for the exact same keyword on Google Ad (not Youtube, but the policies are the same) and they obviously got approved.

Can someone explain this to me ? Is this normal or is there a trick involved ?

Thanks !

They are probably cloaking the lander. So the reviewer sees a completely different landing page.

Well, the problem is that you can tell the policy is violated just by looking at the keyword, not even the lander.

So, I don't know much about cloaking, but AFAIK you cannot cloak the keyword so what I am asking is how they got approved for that particular keyword even though it clearly violates the policies (for me, at least)

And that's not even one lucky guy, there's multiple of them

I very much doubt they're violating the kw per se. The kw control on adwords is the strictest they got.

I believe Google approved their ad because they didn't detect any violation on the landing page (as others mentioned, probably cloaked).

Thanks for the insight, but I don't quite get it.

For obvious reasons I cannot tell the exact keyword, but I can guarantee that just by looking at it you can tell it violates a google policy.

For instance a keyword like "buy drug", automatically violates their policy about illicit content, whatever your lander is it shouldnt be allowed, right ?

Well what I don't get is that that keyword is something similar, you can tell it violates their policies just as obviously... Yet ads are running on it with that specific keyword and related ones too.

You should understand ,that reviews dwell more on landing page than keywords for certain niches

So the fact that your ads are not approved especially for display ads means those ads are cloaked...another pointer is to check the domain extension

For some certain niches small advertisers often use cheap domain or even blogs

Such as .webs or webbly and others to get going(you see lot of them)

Once there is a manual review and the Domain is banned

They pick another and begin to run ads

Get ready to buy old AdWords account

Cloaker

!multiple cc

And ultimately

And account lost

Perhaps this drug isn't illegal in some jurisdiction?

If they got a premium advertising account with a google rep constantly in touch with them, they may have arranged something legally.

I'm pretty sure if this were illegal the ad would go down rather quickly.

That's not a drug, I just took that as an example of something that would violate their policies.
It's not illegal, but it violates their policies.
Maybe an arrangement but I find that odd because they're quite little structures and, that would also mean that multiple of them got that "special arrangement"... weird

Let's review the facts: your ad, targetting the kw, was disallowed. Right? Exact same kw?

Assuming it's against their policies. What are the odds that they used a LSI kw and it got matched by LSI to whatever you searched for to test? Maybe they didn't use the specific banned kw?

That's right.
The only difference is I tried a youtube ad and the "competitors" I'm talking about are in serp ads.

Thought about this also, but I'm searching for the exact keyword and their headlines are both something along "{exact keyword} | some generic branding/eye catching", so it seems they're targeting this exact keyword. Whenever I'm searching for related keywords/LSI keywords, they don't show up at all.

Give it one or two weeks and check if they're still there.
