I run a commercial forum and like BHW, we have volunteer moderators also. We often get criticized "Why don't you pay them?"

The answer is simple. Most people have no power in real life, and they jump at the opportunity to have cyber-power. In fact, I bet we could charge money to be a forum moderator and there would be a line-up of people willing to pay.

I forget who said this, but it goes something like "Those with the least power use it the most"

My guess would be at the least $2-3 million a year with all those jr.Vip subscriptions, Sticky posts, email newsletters and ad placements. But, you also need to take into consideration the server costs, paying mods and other overhead expenses. This is a good business model now because BHW has already established itself.
