Change to the Lounge Rules?

Wow, I can barely imagine a blackhatworld without being attracted to toxic lounge threads from the front page... How productive I could be... Oh say it isn't just a dream!?

The problem with those topics is the negative media coverage. Blackhatworld is already discussed or viewed in a negative manner but, there should be a thick red line between what's blackhat and what's pure fraud.

Its all fun and game until Google decides to complety blacklist the domain. The company is already filled with social justice warriors and snowflakes who are looking to censor anything they disagree with. We don't want that to happen with this community that's for sure.

I think there should be a way to manually index only good topics while let others indexed within forum. Like blocking Google bots from accessing new threads and only index the threads with certain amount of thanks.

By the way, I have never thanked mods for their amazing participation in this site. Their proactive attitude is amazing. I have seen countless forums where mods don't give a crap about what's going on within their community. There are flame wars, spamming, off topic shit but here, despite the amount of activities, the mods are keeping everything clean. I hope you guys get paid for this!

I agree 100%, this is a legit issue, I really think the mods and damien need to look into it, you say it right when you talk about it damaging the reputation, I showed a business friend bhw a couple of weeks back and when he did take a look there was a pile of crap like the threads you talk about and he just thought it was (4)chan for marketers.

I really hope the mods and whoever can understand what we are saying and take a look at it. It's really become a downer for bhw for me.

@Asif WILSON Khan @BassTrackerBoats please take a quick look at the thread @jamie3000 posted above also about this, It mentions some other threads connected and shows the problem more, I put a bigger reply there also, this is becoming a fuck up.

@BassTrackerBoats - I think a good move would just be to close any real poisonous threads before they gain traction? Or you could have a downvote button which takes them off the homepage for everyone when it gets enough downvotes you know the threads im talking about they are so plain to see and I know you probably see them and sigh.

I think the lounge, yeah sure its a massive waste of time BUT I don't think that's the problem, I think the problem is those real fucked up stupid threads which should just be purged the moment they come about like the emotional spam that they are. These poisonous threads need sorting out before they start to get bigger, its so clear to identify them.

The problem with voting system is the abuse and botting. Sites like reddit have vote manipulation on constant basis.

1st example : People will make a group to downvote "good/golden" threads in fear of oversaturation while copying method to themselves.

2nd example : Marketplace manipulation. Just imaging the shitstorm it will cause.

Only way the voting system that will be effective is that to vote, you need to have a certain amount of karma/reputation. The up voters and down voters should be visible to a specific user level to keep track of accounts engaging in vote brigade.

Thats a very good point, I did mean just make it applicable to lounge threads though. Could have it when a few people downvote a lounge thread then it just flags it for a mod to take a look, and if the mod sees it is worthless and negative, the mod could then just stop it from appearing on the homepage or lock it.

If mods could just close the offending threads in the first place it would be fine, so maybe just a slight change in rules, like if a post is too offensive/sexist/negative etc it can be closed. I know its all extra work for mods and we all appreciate their work and trust their judgement.
The real issue is these threads being kept alive.

Karma/Rep might work well enough and automated.

I also have a point I'd like to add to any rule like this.

Rules against misinformation:
I don't want to name the people doing this but there is a 1 member in particular that seems to post for the sake of it, often bringing up information they clearly have no real world experience in. They repeat myths or fake/out of date information without understanding the actual topic. It's clear they have limited experience in lots of these areas because they also ask the kinds of questions that show this (sometimes in the same thread they post their "advice" in) but still post this nonsense.

This drags down quality of topics and noobs are probably going to listen to them as they have a high post count and look authoriative. This means more and more noobs are going to either waste their time, or repeast this bad information going forward.

Another thing this particular member does is quote someone who replied and go "yes OP you want to do this..."

Then repeat or rewrite what the person they quoted said. I really feel they are posting for the sake of it rather than to add a new perspective or further any kind of discussion. If everyone did this the forum would be a waste of time.

This is a huge SEO forum. Yet in the last couple of months I've not seen a single interesting SEO thread that dived into anything beyond the basics or noob topics that have been discussed a lot. I don't know if I'm looking at this with rose tinted glasses but years ago this place was a gold mine that really helped me build my business.

People like @netmoney1 @t0mmy @phpbuilt @facebookdude @BreaknBrix @SkyrocketSEO (and others) really posted some great information. They seem to have disapearred and no one stepped up to replace them.

@Diamond Damien @Apricot It might be time for a change to the Lounge rules as threads like the following are just stupid and potentially damaging to the reputation of BHW

I don't think we need a loser section where guys can moan about not getting laid, threads like that just encourage trolling. The guy clearly has issues with women and he isn't going to get the help he needs from a marketing forum.

+1 for all of this ^

I know it is not a democracy but some of the posts really do stop me from visiting as regularly as I probably otherwise would. They are simply too childish and clutter business and learning which is why I come to BHW.

I do not want to hear about

a) kids that cannot get laid
b) inane questions about prostitution
c) posts where people are looking for sympathy because they are depressed
d) or are seriously asking for medical advice

BHW is not the place for this.

Go to

a) pornhub
b) pornhub
c) pornhub
d) probably pornhub

NOT BHW.

Change the lounge rules, get rid of the dross, stop devaluing the brand.

Please

Yeah, this exactly!
I found myself also not visiting here as regularly and thought it was just me.

Id see those kind of threads you mentioned on front page and it would piss me off I have come on an IM forum and I have this shit it just puts me off so much and made me think twice about introducing BHW to some business people I know who are a bit more serious/legit than me.

It took me long enough to get my productivity and being able to make money to where it is today, and I did that by stopping hanging out with people like that and not going to forums or places on the net that had that bullshit distraction going on, its like a virus.

Agree, some of the posts made by @redarrow in particular are awful in terms of advise. This user seems to not speak english as a first language or something so I'm not making judgements on their spelling or anything like that. It's just the actual advice they post is usually wrong or very outdated. Last week I read a post from them advising them to use a feature of Facebook ads which was removed 3 years ago. This proves:
  1. They don't use facebook ads
  2. They are just regurgitating content they have read
@krishnaverma also posts things that are particularly bad, usually daft questions from reddit or yahoo answers.

I can actually feel braincells die when I read their content.

I was afraid if you picked my thread in lounge.

Dude we can spam thousand of people with crappy cpa offer fake hot girl profiles to lure people to dating offer and manipulate site rankings. what postivity you expect from white hat world

I have also found some incongruences in the forum. Moderators are so eager to warn you if you screw some rules like bumping a BST before 24 hrs passes. Even if for me is another day, also I dont bump for bumping, I always update with my research or things I consider important to already existing customers.
In this case, I think they should add a countdown until you can post again, and dont mess with users that make a big effort to be good members of this community.

Anyway, about the lounge, I do not frequent that sub-forum, I prefer more objective stuff like Programming and other methods. I think Lounge is open for any discussion. Anyway this guy looks repulsive, he has a repulsive avatar and way of writing, he considers himself a loser, talks about hookers and sex. He might have some mental issues about sex.

And adult sub-forum will be what this BH community needs. Cause many people try to make it on that niche.
For me, I just ignore those users, but yes. If you ask me, I think he is a troll.

That is a tad unfair as you have bumped your threads a whole bunch and have not received a warning since July.

Most of the time we just remove your illegal post and send you an alert.

But I am not bumping for bumping. I answer 1 time a day. Could be morning or night. I never answer twice a day.
Anyway, it is my personal suggestion, I am a user giving my User Experience review. It kind of make me angry when this happens cause I've seen other threads that OP just post "BUMP" or they just copy and paste same BST thread image design.

Sorry if you might feel this unfair. Maybe you have passed that times I have done a bump cause it hasn't been a pointless bump.

You have to be pretty daft to launch a business and sell on here without understanding the rules of the platform.

I don't see why you're asking them to add in features because you can't use multiquote or work out when you last posted.

It's the same rules for all of us that have a BST... we can respond once every 24 hours by grouping the questions together and if there have been no comments we can respond once every 72 hours.

Going forward we'll just warn you instead of just send you an alert (I know I've sent you no less than 4 alerts); that way you can be accurate in your complaint about the rules.

I always use multi-quote, the thing here is much deeper. It was just my opinion. The main thread is about something else so I won't continue discussing my warnings for 1-hour early violation. Sometimes I don't even post an update cause I am waiting that time to pass to post and then I get busy with other things and forgot to update.

I remember a while ago, that this kind of stuff was not a reason for warnings, but it is the fault of many spammy users that they just want to bump and sell.

I agree with having more strict rules, more marketing less jerry springer would make this place all info on the home page. Instead it's filtering through the

Girlfriend
Sex
Depression
Help me
Suicide
I banged a monkey on the weekend crap

Make this forum marketing again as my neighbours to the south say

I forget who to give credit too but someone posted on here what we need are "down vote buttons". My first post I can no longer edit so I felt the need to post this as its restating what's been said but this forum needs. Make it where if you have so many down votes compared to up votes your post or thread gets ghosted until reviewed and the poster looses the points. This may help with keeping fake accounts out of the picture and in newbie status

Nobody would ever abuse that.
