It will affect speed, sure but what I mean to say is - Google doesn't check your host for ranking your site in the SERPs. Hosting affects site speed, which affects SEO. Google doesn't automatically reward you for choosing the best host. You can have the best host and still rank below someone with an inferior host AND your site can load relatively slowly on a better host than on an inferior host with better optimization.
