I'm following this and super interested to see what the outcome will be like. I don't think Google will be able to close this easily if done right.

I'd expect this strategy to work if the target page is topically relevant to one on the pages with a link to the domain that is being redirected.

If you're redirecting domains that have a backlink profile that is mainly brand keywords, or if the redirected domain was in the same topic then my bet is that you'll get some success.

I'd try finding domains with high RD so that you need to use fewer redirects. That is easy in some niches than others.

Personally, I'd also create profile links early on (and make sure they get indexed) to provide some brand keywords for the new site name.

@PixelMathis : you have amazing comments. I was wondering what do you generally think about creating web2.0 pages, letting them age two months and then creating backlinks from them? What if I make 100 of these? Is it worth a shot?

Definitely worth it if you age them (so they don't get taken down) and juice them up properly. I usually use these in the initial stages of a website and point most of them to the homepage and some of them to the main money pages.

One link to the money site per 2.0

Also, don't forget to link out to big sites that aren't your direct competitors like Wikipedia once on each 2.0.

In the comments the guy said he spent $15K on his website with the cost mostly going to backlinks but says he only has 3-5 domains redirected. Sounds to me like he is getting all that ranking power from his other backlinks which he spent a fortune on. Not sure why he makes it sound like it comes mostly from the redirects.

Yep plus Ive heard people saying they've tried it before and got no results at all.

Ill soon be testing iy myself will throw them at 2 different websites and see if theres any changes

How long does it take until we can see the full result of a 301 redirect? For a PBN link it takes around +-45 days. A while ago many 301 redirects could lead to a penalty pretty fast.

The owner of this site mentioned in the comments that he spent a lot on a PBN *(Out of 3-4 Strong Domains, I spent somewhere around 6K USD on 2 domains to keep things floating on top (Although I was already dominating top spots) - he said that in the comments*

So the article's title is actually misleading, the main reason for his rankings is the strong PBN.

Yes, there is an update. So here is what I did:

1) 2 very strong non relevant domains pointed to a small money site (that site didnt have any backlinks).

• I created new subpages where I redirected the domains. The new pages talked about the redirected domain, so it appears that its a relevant redirect
• there was a noticeable jump in the serps, perhaps it took around 10-14 days, too lazy to check right now
• as I stated before, the domain didnt have any backlinks built before
• I went from like avg position 60-70 to position 35 for many interesting money keywords
• the serps are +- stable now
• the backlinks and anchor text are listed in search console

2) I pointed 1 strong non relevant domain to my main money domain (many years old, lots of backlinks)

• made it the same way - created a relevant page on my domain talking about the redirected domain and pointed the 301 domain to this page
• no noticeable jumps in serps
• in the mean time I built other links to this money domain
• my serps were progressing slowly but steadily, very decent positions and a lot of money coming in. Hard to tell, but I think it was because of my other linkbuilding (because the rise was very gradual and slow)
• the anchor text, backlinks etc. for the redirected domain are showing up in the search console of the money domain
• around 2 weeks ago (+- 3 months after doing the redirect) every single page lost some rankings. Like many keywords that were on #1 went to #3 after years holding this position. Basically across all pages on the domain, various keywords. I lost around 20-30% of my visitors, so not absolute apocalypse, but still

The big question is - was the negative change in SERPs a result of the 301 or just a new Google update that would change my rankings anyway, even without the redirect? Any idea?
I disabled the redirect for my money website few days ago. No changes yet.

Its not that easy to simply buy expired domain and point to money site you have to check many factors if the expired domain is toxic or not.

Sometimes domains are penalized or hit by manual penality.

Remember doing 301 can lead to penality as well with a delay of 1 to 2 week if the domain is toxic.

Actually all the expired domains were previously used by me for 2-3 years as PBN sites and they did rank for the keywords I wanted them to rank. The same keywords as my main money domain. So no toxic domains.
