NLP is very real. Do some A B testing and find out for yourself. I have been using it successfully in advertising for about a decade.

Although I am most comfortable with JavaScript and php, I gotta say python has impressed me a lot! I have stopped using php altogether (except for some occassional wp stuffs) once I found out what python could do for me. So, my vote goes for python too.

As for the reason, I would say.. mostly language semantics, multi threading and the compatibility with various operating system. It is a truly beautiful language.

It's not a programming language. You can't write logic with it. It's a markup language so it does not count.
